How to Increase Hunter Rank | FFXV
This is a guide on how you can increase your Hunter Rank in Final Fantasy XV. Read on to learn more about Hunter Ranks and their corresponding rewards!
Hunter Rank
Hunter Rank determines how experienced you are in the field of bounty hunting. Your rank can be increased as you successfully defeat a bounty hunt mark.
Stars are awarded for every successful bounty hunt and the number of stars obtained depends on the hunt.
You can only get your rewards together with the stars after you report back to any tipster. You will get the exact same rewards even if you report back to another tipster instead to the tipster that gave the hunt to you.
Each hunter rank give better rewards the higher the rank is so aim for the highest rank!
Higher hunter rank also unlocks more difficult bounty hunts which also rewards the player better items upon completion.

Bounty hunts can be undertaken at restaurants. More often than not, the bounty in question is far more dangerous than the local beasts. However, successful hunts provide extra EXP and gil, so they are worth the added challenge.

Hunts are quests in Final Fantasy XV that have the player slay a specific enemy or a group of enemies somewhere in the world for a reward. Hunts can be undertaken from places where the player can eat, whose servers act as tipsters (only one diner in Lucis doesn't offer hunts: the Tozus Counter in Lestallum). The player could initially have only one hunt active at a time, but patch 1.17 added an option to accept up to ten hunts at once. A completed hunt can be turned in to any tipster. Hunts can be repeated. Hunts can be done in Lucis and Altissia.

Yellow markers denote easier hunts, whereas red markers denote harder hunts (where Carbuncle's Blessing is not available in Easy Mode). Some monsters only come out during certain times of day. Takes on a nighttime hunt during the day gives an option to skip to nightfall (7 PM) when signing up for the quest at the tipster's location. The player can also go to a camp to skip time (the hour of nightfall time is earlier at the camp than at the tipster's location; night also falls earlier every chapter until it resets in Chapter 15).
Completing a hunt earns the My First Hunt achievement/trophy.
Hunter rank[]

The player's hunter rank determines which hunts they can take on: they must be of sufficient rank to take on increasingly more difficult hunts. To rank up, the player must accumulate a set amount of new stars, which differ for each hunter rank. To earn stars, the player must complete new bounty hunts: the more difficult the hunt, the more new stars will be earned. The player can repeat an already completed bounty hunt and will receive the same EXP and a lower amount of gil, but not stars and the item reward. Upon reaching a new rank, they earn a bonus reward.

Entries with 2 enemies needed only show the “primary” marks… It doesn’t fit well.
I’ll find the best compromise to have the most info. Screenshots of hunt location
and a map is something I’d like to do in the near future.

Missing 3 stars! Problems Unlocking Hunts
Some hunts don’t show up right off the bat. I’ll discuss all the ways to unlock them.
Ranking up is the most basic one. The more you rank up, the more you’ll see.
Missing 3 stars for rank 10! Aye, so was I. There’s one stupid hunt that’s unlocked after a lengthy quest chain from Vyv (the fat photographer in Lestallum). Get ready for a lot of travel and load screens.
Adamantoise hunt only unlocks after you’ve done the sidequest to face him.
Dungeon Bosses I’m pretty damn sure the recycled dungeon bosses require you to complete the dungeon before the hunts become available.
Hunt Pre-requisite: Finishing a hunt unlocks further ones. While this seems weird I’m nearly 100% sure this happened in Maagho. I could be wrong was just in a daze…
Hunt Basics & FAQ
Broke? Hunts. Need EXP? Hunts.
Megalixirs and Mega Phoenix? HUNTS!
Hunts are unlocked very early in the game – you literally can’t miss it.
All hunt bills are obtained from tipsters (restaurants). Each hunt gives you rewards – usually Gil and Items. EXP is pretty great too, which is obtained when beating marks.
Completing hunts and killing bounties give Stars, which increase your hunters rank. The primary benefit of increasing your rank is being able to undertake more difficult marks.
The hunt system is pretty basic, and there isn’t much to wonder about. The only sad part is you can only take on one hunt at a time!
YOU CAN TURN IN HUNTS AT ANY TIPSTER!!!!
You can repeat hunts for gil / exp!
Hunter Rank Rewards & Requirements
Hunter Rank | Stars | Reward | Title |
Rank 1 | 0 | – | ? |
Rank 2 | 5 | Titanium Bangle | Trapper |
Rank 3 | 15 | Heliodor Bracelet | Chaser |
Rank 4 | 30 | Silver Bangle | Ranger |
Rank 5 | 50 | Sapphire Bracelet | Slayer |
Rank 6 | 40 | Gold Bangle | Officer |
Rank 7 | 40 | Black Choker | Guardian |
Rank 8 | 40 | Blue Diamond Bracelet (?) | Grandmaster |
Rank 9 | 40 | Centurion Bangle | Hand of Mercy |
Rank 10 | 43 | Dark Matter Bracelet | Alleyway Jack |
The rewards for actually ranking up are secondary, as they aren’t THAT good to be a motivator to get your hunter rank up. Again the main benefit of ranking up is purely to undertake better bounties.
Well, happy hunting! FFXV Hunts kind remind you of FFXII, ey? But the latter pulled it off better…

Bounty Hunts or simply Hunts are sidequests that can be taken from diners or restaurants. Each hunt requires the player to defeat an monster or a group of monsters somewhere around the map, which is usually an area close to where you took the hunt request.
There are monsters that can only be encountered during hunts.
For a complete list of Hunts and where to take them, check out the link below!
Hunts List and Guide
After you defeated the mark, or the target indicated on the hunt, you need to report back to any tipster to receive your reward. It does not need to be the one who gave you the hunt, the rewards will be the same.
Easier hunts are denoted by yellow markers. These are recommended for beginners or if you think that you are too underleveled based on the hunt's recommended level. Red markers denote the more difficult hunts, offering more challenge.
Generally, all targets on hunts are stronger than those you encounter in storyline quests.
Monsters in hunts appear only on certain times of the day. You can view which time they are Active and can be encountered on the hunt details which can be also reviewed in the Quest menu.
If you join a hunt where the targets are only active during nighttime, you will be prompted if you want to wait until nighttime. Choosing to wait will instantly skip you through the day and to the exact time when the targets are active while still being on the diner where you took the hunt.
To know more about skipping to nighttime, click the link below!
How to Fast Forward to Nighttime
Hunter Rank is a system related to hunts which increases as you successfully complete hunts. You can increase your hunter rank by obtaining stars.
The number of stars that you acquire depends on the hunt that you successfully completed. Difficult targets usually provide more stars and better rewards.
Some hunts are unavailable at first (indicated by a greyed hunt name on the hunt list) and only becomes available once you reach the Hunter Rank required.

Howling Wind of Hunger
Varmints Of The Wastelands
Gorgers In The Dust
Raindrops In The Night
The flan is very resistant to nearly all types of damage. I suggest progressing through the story until you unlock the Royal Arms special weapons. I’m not sure how common it is but there is bug with this hunt. When I first accepted it, the flan would not spawn. The rest of the map was also entirely void of monsters. I had to restart my game and return, as soon as I was back in, it spawned.
Wild Beauties
Bounty-Hunted Beauties
Rookie Hunter Tragedy
Serpent Of The Abyss
You have to complete the Crestholm Channels dungeon for this hunt.
