so check out this link someone sent me, could this be causing my problems, i do have a cast iron tailshaft, and have used it on every trans i have installed
i'm taking it apart as we speak.

Houston i think we found the problem, my housing is marked exactly like the picture, here is a picture of the transfer case to show whats actually making contact.

If you would want to go back with an aluminum one, I should have a spare around here Dan...if you would need one anyway!

i got a aluminum one on the way, and it's not only a problem with clearence but it is off centered somewhat, the trans guy told me to throw it in the trash it was the root to all my problems, well hopefully

bad thing about it i have less than 2000 miles on all 5 trans combined, i dont hardly drive this truck.

What transfercase is this in the picture? Do you know if the new castiron tail housings still have this problem? I just got one and am waiting for clutch to install. It's a built trany from Hailey.

241 DHD if you read the article from quad 4 the guys says it affects 99.9 of them mine, dont know abpout your's,mine had some KA#on it. the guy from the trans place wanted it back so he can dicuss it with the manufacturer,the trans i got the cast iron housing off was a new trans in Feb,or Mar.

how much do you want for it?? im having the same issues Dan is. i thought they figured out and corrected the issues with the cast iron housing. so i left mine on also :doh:!

Let me look back and see what I gave for it...I was going to convert one of my 5 speeds over to 4x4, but lost interest!

Question for the guys with NV4500 and NP205's!

Fords ran 205s behind C6s with aluminum adapters for years. Every one I saw had a support mounted to the frame on the driver's side.
It was like a small, one sided, transmission mount, and bolted to the side of the transfer case.
When I swapped my BW transfer case out for the 205 to get a PTO opening, I was going to grab a mount from the junkyard.
But, I discovered that Ford had used the frame mounting holes for the high pressure pump when they went to EFI.
So, I fabricated one out of thick steel and some rubber bushings. I have detailed how around here somewhere.
I need to get under and take some pics one of these days.

Not only do I have the 205 hanging off the tranny adapter, it has a cast iron PTO adapter on the 205, with a big heavy cast hydraulic pump on the PTO.

I ran it that way for years, beating on it hard with no damage.
Then, the nut backed off on the front driveshaft coupling, and let mud get past the seal.
It trashed the front output shaft bearing.
Since it was in the middle of hunting season, I bought a rebuilt 205 and swapped it out.
For some reason the bolt holes on the side were slightly different, and I could not hook up my mount.
I finished out hunting season without the mount hooked up, figuring to fix it during the summer.
About 4 years later, I was under looking at something and saw that I had never fixed it.
Took the mount apart, modified the holes slightly and its hooked back up now. But for 4 years I pounded up and down bad roads with no mount.
Nothing ever broke.
But, I am happier with the mount than without it.
