Final Fantasy XV Weapons Guide: best weapons of each class in the game and where to find them

One of the coolest things about Final Fantasy XV is that unlike most FF games it has a particularly impressive and meaty chunk of post-game content. We give that the thumbs up, obviously: When an RPG doesn't just end at the story, it's always a welcome thing.

That post-game content is hard. A lot of it is going to require some solid weapons that you can really use to give the enemy a hard time. For that you'll need some of the game's ultimate weapons - and we're here to help you out with picks for the best weapons in FF15.

Below we've listed the best weapons in the game, picking a few from each weapon category. You'll also learn where to find them. Get them, and head into those post-game bosses properly equipped!

Final Fantasy XV Best Weapons Guide: The best Swords, Greatswords, Polearms, Daggers, Firearms and Shields

Soul Saber - The Cursed Legend

The Soul Saber does more damage to enemies the lower Noctis' Stamina is, which means you'll do the most damage after hanging from a ledge or the like for a while. It has a great attack stat, too.

  • Attack
  • +3 Critical
  • +12 Max MP

This is one of the legendary weapons that sidequest giver Randolph helps you to find once you're in the post-game Chapter Randolph is found in a back-alley in Lestallum. Randolph gives you a series of five quests to slay powerful monsters, a new late-game weapon the reward for each. The Soul Saber is the reward for the fourth quest. You'll want to be a high level for this (80+) and will have to kill a Phalaris. That's weak to greatswords, for the record. Complete the quest and you'll get the sword and a shed-load of EXP.

The Ultima Blade is obtained by following the 'a better Engine Blade' quest line with Cid. We've got an entire dedicated guide page on how to complete these quests and get this weapon - hit that up.

The Balmung is an impressive end-game sword for FF15 that offers a whopping attack stat, plus bonus damage for each hit based on how low your MP is.

  •  Attack
  • +3 Critical
  • +11 Max MP

The Balmung is found in the Steyliff Grove dungeon. This is the dungeon you visit in chapter 7 with Aranea, but you'll have to wait until Chapter 15 to actually get it - it's in the second dungeon area found behind the sealed door in the main dungeon. You can't open these doors until Chapter You'll have to battle through a number of floors filled with difficult enemies. After battling a floor of Tonberries, the sword will drop.

Ragnarok - The Warp Strike Specialist

The Ragnarok is an amazing sword that boosts damage with warp strike in exchange for a longer wind-up to the warp strike animation.

  • Finishers deal +80% Damage

The Flayer is found in the Steyliff Grove dungeon, but only after you've opened the sealed door and ventured into the second half of the dungeon in the post-game. It's at the very, very end of the dungeon - good luck getting there!

The Vigilantes are some cool-looking daggers that come with a nifty bonus skill - they have a chance to inflict Stop on enemies.

  • Attack
  • +3 Critical
  • +5 Max MP
  • +25 Magic

The Vigilanties are found in the Glacial Grotto dungeon behind the sealed door. You'll only be able to get it in Chapter The daggers will drop on the floor where you make camp.

  • Attack
  • +3 Critical
  • +13 Max MP
  • +32 Magic Modifier

This is one of the legendary weapons that sidequest giver Randolph helps you to find once you're in the post-game Chapter  Randolph is found in a back-alley in Lestallum. Randolph gives you a series of five quests to slay powerful monsters, a new late-game weapon the reward for each. These daggers are the reward for the fifth quest. You'll have to kill a Naglfar - it's weak to Fire, Ice, Lightning and Light but resists standard issue weapons. Complete the quest and you'll get the daggers.

Executioner - ideal for picking off foes one by one

The Executioner is a powerful firearm weapon that has the unique skill of doing 50% more damage to enemies that are alone. This is especially ideal for large enemies that travel alone such as behemoths.

  • Attack
  • +2 Critical
  • +22 Spirit

This powerful gun is found in the Glacial Grotto dungeon after chapter 15 - it's behind the sealed door. This is a hard one to get - it drops at the very end of the dungeon.

Death Penalty - Vincent's classic returns

The Death Penalty was Vincent's ultimate weapon in FF7 and has appeared in multiple games since - in FF15 it returns, and has a tiny chance to instantly kill any enemy it strikes.

  • Attack
  • +2 Critical
  • +25 Spirit
  • 1% Chance to inflict Instant Death

The Death Penalty is also found in a post-game dungeon behind the sealed door - inside the Balouve Mines. It drops at the very end of the dungeon after a grueling boss fight.

Aegis Shield - Nullify enemy attacks

The Aegis Shield is a decent-quality shield with an excellent ability: it has a 10% chance to nullify any incoming damage, a hell of an ability.

  • Attack
  • +1 Critical
  • +55 Vitality
  • +11 Ballistic Resistance

As with so many of these weapons, it's found in a post-game dungeon behind the sealed door - inside the Steyliff Grove. Surprisingly, it's a fairly common drop in the second area of the dungeon, after the first post-door camp.

Ziedrich Shield - Legend Wrapped in an Enigma

This powerful Shield has some impressive stats and also offers + strength for 3 seconds after successfully blinking - deadly when used right.

  • Attack
  • +1 Critical
  • +50 Vitality
  • +14 Ballistic Resistance

This is one of the legendary weapons that sidequest giver Randolph helps you to find once you're in the post-game Chapter  Randolph is found in a back-alley in Lestallum. Randolph gives you a series of five quests to slay powerful monsters, a new late-game weapon the reward for each. This shield is the reward for the third quest. You'll want to be a high level for this (75+) and will have to kill two Sir Tonberries. Tonberry are weak to Daggers and Light, but they can easily one-shot you, so be careful. Your reward will be the shield.

Best Weapons in FFXVguide shows all the ultimate weaponsacquired in the end game. End game weapons give a significant boost in attack damage, but some lack the additional stats. This is why the Armiger weapons (royal arms) are the perfect choice for the stats boosts. Arguably the best combination of primary arms for full power is having three armiger weapons and a regular one.

Armiger Weapons

Armiger weapons are weapons of previous kings. Many of them are obtainable through the main story, but some of them you can miss. The best thing about Armiger weapons are their stats boosts. They can increase resistances to various types of damage, raw physical damage and more. To get the Armiger stats boosts, they only need to be sheathed. The downside of the Armiger weapons is that they can only be used by Noctis (because they are royal arms), and they also drain his health bar when he attacks.

Dungeon Seal Door Weapons

Once you are at the end of the game, you can talk to Ezma. This old lady is found in Meldacio Hunter HQ Outpost, in the northwestern part of the map. She gives you a sealed doors key. These doors are found within the dungeons. Once opened, they reveal an entrance to the hardest part of the given dungeon. At the end of these dungeon parts you can collect the ultimate weapon. These weapons are not royal arms (can be used by anyone), and they have a great damage output.

Machinery Weapons

Although these weapons can be acquired even at the start of the game, the biggest value they add are their special attacks and the fact they are ranged weapons. If you equip Prompto with them, he can use their power without your interference. Some of the machinery like Gravity Well performs an attack called Gravity Sphere. This special attack resembles the Ascension talent called Gravisphere. This way you save 26 attribute points.

There is also an one more thing. You can upgrade them, to make them even better. This is the endgame goal for them. You can find these upgrades and the name of the items needed for their completion on our main FFXV link page: Strategy Guides &#; Walkthroughs.

Ultima Blade
  • Attack:
  • MP: +40
  • Magic: +30
Description
The ultimate sword crafted with Insomnian technology. It absorbs the elemental powers of defeated foes.

The Ultima Blade is the easiest to obtain among the best swords in FFXV. Its base form is the Engine Blade that you already have at the very beginning of the game and you will need to have Cid upgrade it until it becomes the Ultima Blade.

The Gaze of the Vortex can be obtained from Y'hjimin's trading post in Perpetouss Keep. Its damage boost when doing aerial attacks, reduced MP cost on airsteps, guaranteed critical hits, and its raw attack easily make it one of the best swords in the game.

Balmung has the highest attack of all the swords in the game. When using it, it is best not to use too much MP as its damage decreases relative to the percentage of Max MP lost. It can be obtained in the Steyliff Grove at level

Hyperion works wonders when fighting multiple enemies. Its damage increases for each additional enemy nearby and can reach up to double its base attack. Gladiolus will have this equipped at the beginning of Chapter 14 and you can also buy more at the weapon shop in the same chapter.

Pain of the Vortex is also obtainable from Y'hjimin's trading post in Perpetouss Keep. It also gives aerial combat bonuses and is guaranteed to critically hit on every strike.

Apocalypse is an endgame greatsword that boosts the attack of the wielder as his HP drops. You can find it in the sealed dungeon of Balouve Mines during Chapter

The Dragoon Lance is the third highest damaging polearm in the game which also gives elemental resistances. It can be obtained from one of Randolph's legendary weapons quests in Chapter

The Precision Lance is the second highest damaging polearm and its higher critical rate makes it deal even more. It can be obtained as a prize from the Totomostro minigame.

The Flayer is the highest damaging polearm in the game. Using it in combat changes your combo finisher into a more devastating attack. It can be obtained at the end of Steyliff Grove maze.

Vigilantes have a small chance of inflicting Stop on each hit which makes the enemy completely helpless for a few seconds. You can find these daggers inside the sealed dungeon of Greyshire Glacial Grotto.

Plumes of the Vortex are also obtainable from Y'hjimin's trading post in Perpetouss Keep. Like most of the other "Vortex" weapons, these daggers also give enhanced aerial combat capabilities and % critical rate.

The strongest weapons in the entire game. Their high attack rating and quick attacks dish out a lot of damage. Combine these with their damage boost which takes effect when the wielder is at full HP, you will be taking out enemies one after another in seconds. These daggers are one of the rewards from Randolph's legendary weapons quests.

The Executioner deal more damage to isolated targets which makes it more useful on bosses that do not have pawns. It is obtained on one of the floors of Greyshire Glacial Grotto's sealed dungeon.

Death Penalty has the highest attack of all the firearms in the game and has a small chance of inflicting Instant Death on each hit. The level 99 Melusine drops this weapon which can be fought on a sidequest given by a hunter in Meldacio Hunter HQ.

Abandon of the Vortex breaks appendages easily, deals more damage on vulnerable targets, is guaranteed to critically hit, and gives various stat upgrades, making it one of the best, if not the best, firearm in the game. It is also obtained from Y'hjimin's trading post in Perpetouss Keep.

The Wizard Shield is the third strongest shield and can be found near the entrance of Rock of Ravatogh.

Ziedrich has the highest attack rating of all the shields. It greatly boosts Noctis's strength after blinking. Ziedrich is one of the weapons rewarded by Randolph in Chapter

Aegis Shield is probably the best shield in the game despite having a lower attack than Ziedrich. It has a chance to completely negate damage. It can be found on the 59th level of Steyliff Grove's secret dungeon.

Gravity Well Plus unleashes a sphere that pulls enemies to it, making it easier to attack enemies by grouping them in one place. It is obtained by giving the Gravity Well (found in Aracheole Stronghold) to Cid together with a Hydraulic Cylinder.

Noiseblaster Plus damages enemies in a wide area with shockwaves over a period of time. It is obtained by giving the Noiseblaster (found in Fort Vaullerey) to Cid together with a Magentron.

Drillbreaker Plus is the highest damaging machinery. It is obtained by giving the Drillbreaker (found in Formouth Garrison) to Cid together with a Magitek Core.

ImageInfo
Trident of the Oracle
Description
A strong and noble woman was loved by the world. She granded succor to the stars and brought man and god together. This was the trident of her line. It makes allies of the wielder's holograms.

The Trident of the Oracle produces afterimages while attacking that also deal damage to enemies, increasing its total DPS. It is a storyline Royal Arm that is obtained at the end of Chapter

ImageInfo
Sword of the Father
  • Attack:
  • Strength: +
  • Magic: +
Description
A king was father to the Chosen One, and nurtured the light that would shine upon all creations. This was his mighty sword. It makes the great greater.

The Sword of the Father is the last storyline Royal Arm and is obtained during Chapter Its huge boost on Strength and Magic makes it useful even when not being wielded. If used in combat, it also boosts Noctis's strength after doing a combo Finisher and drains his HP slower than any other Royal Arm.

[Top 10] Final Fantasy XV Best Weapons (And How To Get Them)

Final Fantasy XV has a plethora of weapons. In this guide, I will talk about the best and worth-getting weapons of the game. Don’t worry. You do not have to reach endgame to get the best stuff.

Blade of Brennaere (Best starter weapon)

Final Fantasy 15 - Blade of Brennaere - Fire Greatsword Location

The Blade of Brennaere is a fire great sword. To be honest, It is nothing compared to the other weapons in this list. What makes this mention-worthy is…

You can get this as early as Chapter 1 when you reach Hammerhead for the first time

  • It’s free
  • ATK is better than any default weapon.

This weapon can be found at The Three Valleys as a treasure. Miss that and you can buy this at weapon shops by Chapter 3. Beware of using these on fire-elemental enemies as you might end up healing them instead.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 2 CRIT
  • +82 Max HP
  • 27% Fire Resistance
  • Inflicts fire-based damage

9. Ziedrich (Best shield in the game)

ZIEDRICH (FFXV)

Shields are not just for defense. This franchise-recurring shield is great for Gladiolus but only Noctis can maximize its full potential.

  • Strongest in the game with ATK
  • Boosts Strength when blinking

As Noctis has four weapon slots, you may want to switch to this before an enemy attack so that the blinking (successful dodge) effect will occur.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 1 CRIT
  • +50 VIT
  • 14% Shot Resistance
  • + Strength for 3 seconds after Blinking (effect triggers only for Noctis)

8. Flayer (Best polearm in the game)

FINAL FANTASY XV - BEST LANCE LOCATION (Flayer)

The Flayer is the strongest polearm. What makes this on the bottom of our list is that you can only get it in one of the hardest dungeons in FFXV’s endgame. By the time you get this weapon, there is not much left for you to try it on after.

What makes this weapon amazing is that…

  • Deals 80% damage to finishing moves
  • ATK
  • You do the math

You may equip this on Noctis to make him more OP than he already is or you may give it to Ignis for a more well-balanced team. I did the latter so that I can trust my boys to finish off encounters when I need a break.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 4 CRIT
  • Finishers deal 80% damage

7. Radiant Lance (Best for early game and for grinding)

Final Fantasy XV | Radiant Lance | Location

This lance has always been a high-ranking weapon throughout the Final Fantasy franchise. For FFXV, you can get this as early as Chapter 3!

I recommend that you get this as early as possible because…

  • Strong against daemons (any creature that comes out only at night)
  • Attack Power

You may get this at the optional dungeon, Costlemark Tower. If you feel that you are under-leveled or not confident enough then just escape all the encounters that you see, grab the Radiant Lance, and get out!

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 4 CRIT
  • Light-Elemental

6. Orichalcum (best for early game and grinding)

FFXV 64 Early Orichalcum via Costlemark Tower

If you are braving Costlemark Tower for the Radiant Lance, then might as well get the Orichalcum, too. This is basically the Radiant Lance but stronger and in dagger form.

  • Great for level grinding and monster hunting
  • Also stronger against daemons

If you don’t want to risk Game Over, the Radiant Lance and Orichalcum are available in the Meldacio Hunter HQ weapon shop for 10, Gil each.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 8 CRIT
  • +9 Max MP
  • +20 Magic
  • Light-Elemental

5. Death Penalty (Strongest weapon for Prompto)

Final Fantasy XV | Death Penalty | Patch | How To Get It

The Death Penalty debuted as Vincent Valentine’s ultimate weapon in FFVII.

There are two ways to acquire this firearm. One is as early as Chapter 8 by defeating the Lv99 Melusine. This enemy is a tricky mistress as you only have until dawn to kill her or else she disappears and you have to do it all over again.

The other option is defeating the endgame dungeon in Balouve Mines in Chapter Arguably, this is one of the easiest among the seven secret dungeons.

  • ATK
  • Has a chance of inflicting Instant Death to enemies

Prompto must wield this weapon as the Instant Death effect can only happen when he uses Piercer or Trigger Happy. I have experienced the effect a couple of times and it is amazing.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 2 CRIT
  • +25 Spirit
  • 1% Chance to inflict Instant Death

4. Sword of the Tall (Royal Arm fit for a king)

Final Fantasy XV SWORD OF THE TALL LOCATION (OPTIONAL ROYAL ARM)

You do not need to acquire all 12 Royal Arms to finish the game but where is the fun in that?

The Sword of the Tall is your prize for defeating Costlemark Tower’s primary dungeon (not the endgame one on Chapter 15). As with all weapons equipped on Noctis, you do not have to use it to benefit from its stats.

This Royal Arm is a cut above the others because

  • ATK
  • One tap of a button is equal to multiple hits.

The downside of this weapon is that it decreases Elemental Resistance by 40%. If that is not your cup of tea, then you may switch to the Axe of the Conqueror. The setback of that one is that it only has ATK.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 2 CRIT
  • Max HP: +
  • Spirit:
  • Fire Resistance: %
  • Ice Resistance: %
  • Lightning Resistance: %
  • Dark Resistance: %
  • A greatsword with a chainsaw effect, dealing multiple hits with each blow. The warp-strike is 3 horizontal swings.

3. Ring of Lucii (The reason why Noctis is OP)

Final Fantasy XV Weapon Guide -- Ring of the Lucii

The Ring of Lucii is acquired in the Main Quest in Chapter This weapon allows Noctis to cast Arcana, a special kind of magic that summons the power of the crystal.

This magic pimp ring lets you…

  • Cast Death, thus instantly kill small enemies while recovering your HP
  • Cast Alterna (Banishment spell) to large enemies or hordes
  • Cast Holy as a counterattack after a successful dodge.

The downside of this ring is that you need to have full MP for the Arcana to work, especially Alterna. Also, you must be actively using the Ring for the Arcana to take effect.

If you are afraid that you will become too OP when you use it, with an 85% successful casting rate, your fears are valid. Personally, I only used the Ring in the Costlemark Tower endgame no-item dungeon.

Still, do not let me or anyone stop you from using the Ring wherever you want. Do take note that some things do not work with the Ring of Lucii like warp-strikes and the Black Hood’s auto-dodge effect.

This ring is so ridiculous that you can defeat the Lv99 Adamantoise in less than a minute with just one Alterna spell. Imagine my pain when I learned about that after spending three real-life hours on killing it the normal way.

Statistics

  • Allows Noctis to cast Holy, Alterna, and Death

2. Zwill Crossblades (Most sought-after daggers)

How to Get Zwill Crossblades (Best Weapon!!!) | deadPik4chU's Final Fantasy XV

This is arguably the strongest weapon in the game. This recurring weapon gets stronger when your character is at full health. With an impressive combat animation when in use to how much damage this baby can give, it is a real sight to behold.

In order to get this, you have to defeat a Lv Naglfar from one of Randolf’s Legendary Weapons Quests. As the quests appear only in Chapter 15, I recommend finishing all of Randolf’s quests before doing any endgame dungeon crawling to fully enjoy the Zwill Crossblades.

Statistics

  • ATK
  • 8 CRIT
  • +5 Max MP
  • +25 Magic
  • +80% damage at full HP (calculated from current HP, not from max HP)

1. Ultima Blade (Best Overall)

FINAL FANTASY 15 - ULTIMA BLADE! Overpowered Early guide! Windows/ Royal

Any Final Fantasy fan knows what it means to have an ultimate weapon. As Final Fantasy XV is a game “for fans and first-timers”, the Ultima Blade fits this concept to a tee. Acquiring this blade requires players to explore, fight monsters, and synthesize – all the good elements of a good RPG – which is what Final Fantasy is all about.

What makes the Ultima Blade the ultimate weapon is that…

  • It stems from the Engine Blade, Noctis’ default weapon.
  • You can get this as early as Chapter 3 – if you’re willing to work for it.
