The Sims 4: Guitar Skill Guide

The sims 4 guitar skill is an amazing choice if you want your sim to have a fun hobby to do after work that can both raise their fun and also bring in a bit of side money if they play their cards right.

Any sim that is teenager or older is able to learn and play the guitar for fun or for tips and can be a great way to keep your sim happy and jamming along to some interesting music they can create themselves.

Ideal Mood For The Guitar Skill

Every skill that you can build in the sims has an ideal mood for you to have while trying to increase it, and for the guitar skill in the sims 4 it happens to be the inspired mood.

There are a few ways to get your sims inspired but I&#;ve found the easiest way to just get your sim to take a thoughtful shower. You can also admire art if you are into painting and listen deeply on a stereo.

Traits That Help The Guitar Skill

Traits are an easy way to change the personality of your sims and can seriously influence the way your sims act and the things they like to do. That&#;s why it&#;s so important to choose traits that are going to help in your storytelling. If you want to make your sim a master guitar player here are some traits that can help you.

Since being inspired is the best mood for a sim to play the guitar, then creative sims are a great choice. They are easily inspired and can even wake up that way. This means they will increase the guitar skill much faster.

Music Lover

This one seems like a no-brainer! These sims are able to gain a positive moodlet if they are playing music and even just listening to a radio.

Musical Genius (Aspiration)

When you choose the musical genius aspiration you are given the reward trait muser which is the perfect bonus trait, a muser can gain a whole bunch more skill when they are playing guitar while feeling inspired.

How to Gain The Guitar Skill

Obviously, the easiest way to gain the guitar skill is to play guitar! However, you can also purchase guitar skill books on the computer or by clicking on a bookshelf, but I&#;ve found that actually playing will increase your skill much quicker.

Guitar Skill Levels

Guitar Skill Level 1

At the first level of the guitar skill you don&#;t have many options other than to play the guitar or read the guitar skill book. But it can bring a lot of fun into your sims life!

Guitar Skill Level 2

At level 2 of the guitar skill you can now research the guitar at your computer, and enthuse about guitar solos to other sims. You can also get your sim feeling playful and strum for fun.

Guitar Skill Level 3

When your sim reaches level 3 of the guitar skill you can now start playing a brand new music type: blues!

Guitar Skill Level 4

When you reach the 4th level of the guitar skill you can now jam on the guitar which can increase your skill a bit faster than just practicing. You can also start playing a brand new type of music: rock!

Guitar Skill Level 5

At the 5th level of the guitar skill your sim can now play a new type of music: country!

Guitar Skill Level 6

When your sim hits level 6 of the guitar skill you can now serenade other sims with your new found talents and you&#;ve also unlocked a new type of music: ballads!

Guitar Skill Level 7

At guitar level 7 you can now lull sims to sleep and you&#;re also now able to play a new type of music: latin!

Guitar Skill Level 8

When your sim hits guitar level 8 they can now start writing songs, and can also scrap their songs and change the song&#;s name. They can also now play a new type of music: classical!

Guitar Skill Level 9

Now that your sim has reached level 9 of the guitar skill they can now license their songs to make money off their guitar skill. You also unlocked a new type of music to play: jazz!

Guitar Skill Level 10

Now that your sim has managed to max out the guitar skill, they can now mentor other sims in the guitar skill.

If you want to cheat the guitar skill level so you don&#;t have to do as much work, you can! Simple start by typing in ctrl + alt + C and then type testingcheats true and hit enter, that will allow you to enter the following cheat and for cheats to be on. Then type stats.set_skill_level major_guitar X and fill the X with whatever skill level you&#;d like your sim to have.

Playing Guitar for Tips

When you reach level 3 of the guitar skill you can start playing for tips in public places. All you need to do is put your sim&#;s guitar in their inventory and head to a public lot. You&#;ll earn a few dollars per tip but if you go to the park early in the morning and leave sometime before bedtime you can easily make a few hundred dollars to help pay your bills.

Licensing Songs With The Guitar

When your guitar player hits level 8 of the skill they can start to write songs and when they hit level 9 they can start to license these songs to make a little bit of money. This is really the only way to make decent money with the guitar, as playing for tips can be inconsistent, unless of course you jump into the entertainer career.

Unfortunately, you can only license one song at a time so your earnings are limited compared to things like writing books or making online videos. Just like other forms of income, your royalties will be paid every single day at 10 AM and after a week you&#;ll be able to license a new song, but still only one at a time.

The only real way to license more than one song is to write songs on different instruments so you can have one piano, one violin, and one guitar song licensed at a time. You can earn anywhere from § to § a day.

Reward Traits That Help With The Guitar Skill

The first rewards store item that may help you grow your guitar skill would be savant. This new trait would help your sim build their traits 25% faster.

The next rewards store items that could help you with learning any skill is the night owl or morning sim rewards that will help you increase your skills more during these times of the day which can help you grow your guitar skill quickly.

Final Thoughts

The guitar skill is a really fun way to let your sim have a hobby as well as have a way to make a bit of extra income on the side. Are you a fan of the guitar skill in the sims 4? Let me know in the comments!

When pursuing the Musical Genius aspiration in the Sims 4, you will have to mentor other sims in a musical instrument for a total of three hours. This task in itself might not look that difficult, but it can actually be very annoying to get this done if you don't know what exactly you are going to do.

Firstly, in order to mentor another sim you will need to reach level 10 in that skill. For the Musical Genius aspiration you can mentor in either the violin, the piano or the guitar. You only need one of them, so don't bother leveling all three of them to skill level

After you have reached level 10, you need to buy a trait from the aspiration trait store. This cost 1, trait points, so you will have to save up a little while to get this. This trait will allow your sim to mentor other sims in any skill where they have level 10 (including all the non-musical skills).

So, now you have the skill and the trait, and the next step is to find somebody who is actually using the instrument. Unfortunately you cannot just click on a sim and mentor them; you need to click on them and select "Mentor" while they are actually using the instrument. This is very rare to come across naturally (they are mostly untouched even in the bars and lounges in the game), but it's super easy if you play a household with two or more sims. Just select one sim to play it, and another to mentor that sim.

But how do you mentor another sim in an instrument if you play a single sim household? The solution is to click on the instrument and select "Hire guitarist/violinist/pianist". This cost money, but will soon get you a player on the instrument. Once this hired help begins playing, click on them and choose "Mentor", and you will begin to get credit towards it. It will only take a single hire to get the "Mentor for 3 hours" aspiration completed.

"The Sims 4" Walkthrough: Music and Instruments Guide

Matt Bird writes all sorts of nonsense, but he dedicates a large chunk of his time to writing game walkthroughs.

Strum, strum, strum. Music has long played an important role in the lives of sims everywhere, and it continues to dominate the affairs of creative folks in The Sims 4. Instruments make a return in the latest game, and, as ever, they can be used for stress relief&#x;or to make a profit, depending on how much effort your sims are willing to put into learning how they work.

Aspirations and Traits

The obvious Aspiration associated with music of any kind in The Sims 4 is Creative&#x;Musical Genius. This will give your sim the Muser Trait, which improves skill development when the sim is feeling Inspired. Inspired is the mood you want when you&#x;re learning how to play an instrument.

Recommended Traits

Other Traits you&#x;ll want to check out include:

  • Creative. Your sims want to be Inspired to make the most of their music lessons. Creative will do the trick.
  • Music Lover. You&#x;ll get lots of Moodlets that will take advantage of your sim&#x;s musical inclinations.
  • Outgoing. Unlike other skill-oriented professions, musicians suffer from being Loners, as they need to get out and make a lot of friends. At the very least, they need to be comfortable around strangers to earn tips. Outgoing is ideal.

Choose Your Poison: The Three Music Skills

Music is not, in and of itself, a skill in The Sims 4. Instead, music is divided into three separate skills, each pertaining to a different instrument. Though you can ultimately teach your sim how to play all three instruments, it&#x;s wiser to stick with one until you&#x;ve learned it to mastery, then move on to the next. You only really need to learn how to play one to make the most of your sim&#x;s musical potential.

Cashing In: Earning Tips for Your Music

Learning how to play is only half the fun. Your sims can also make money while playing an instrument. Put an instrument in your sim&#x;s inventory and head out to a public place, such as a park or a bar. (Outside your house can work, too, but you&#x;ll probably draw fewer people.) Assuming your sim is in a good spot, near chairs or somewhere you&#x;d normally prepare food, they&#x;ll probably earn tips for playing music.

The number and quality of the tips improves based on your sim&#x;s skills with their instrument. Understandably, sims can&#x;t earn tips with a piano in this fashion unless you find one in the public space. Your sims also won&#x;t earn tips from anyone in your active household.

Writing Songs and Earning Royalties

Ultimately more lucrative than busking is writing songs. Pick up an instrument once your sim is at level eight proficiency or higher and they&#x;ll have the option to Write songs. Once a song is finished you can submit it to a publisher for a cut of royalties, via the mailbox. There&#x;s a cool down time on submissions, so your sim won&#x;t bring in massive amounts of money for a while. You may want to get them jobs as Entertainers / Musicians to supplement their cash flow in the meantime.

Once your sim reaches the height of any of these three skills, they can begin to Mentor other sims in the use of the associated instrument, which is quite handy for creating a household of talented musicians. Additionally, you&#x;ll want to push your sim&#x;s Musical Genius Aspiration to mastery, as it will give your sim the Piper trait. Pipers can change the emotions of others through their song selections, which can be very helpful for quickly manipulating the emotions of other members of the household.

4 busking sims

Original Post

Product: The Sims 4
Which language are you playing the game in?English
How often does the bug occur?Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number?
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed?Everything except Star Wars
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves?Try busking with a guitar or just performing any guitar actions above skill 5 anywhere anytime (in clubs, parks, streets, festivals, etc).
What happens when the bug occurs?Since the big Dec 7th update, my sim can play guitar all day, and they receive no tips. Maybe one or two sims will stop to listen but most will ignore them. When I have my sim play their instrument, I'll try to pick a high traffic spot. I hit the fast-fast-forward button from sun up to midnight, but they don't earn anything. I've tried crowded places, all of the actions involving the guitar skill, playing exactly where my sims spawn on a lot, but very few coins tossed their way. The only place where it does seem to work is in the gym in the Uptown area right between the treadmill and a staircase. Then the tips came rolling in there, my sims got ten tips in a few hours by just using the "Practice" action on their guitar. I also tried different guitars and different sims, festivals, night and day times, but nothing changed.
What do you expect to see?Sims who busk or play their instruments for tips get at least a few tips for playing their instrument.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system?Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. After the December 7th patch was installed automatically.

Best Ways To Earn Money In Sims 4

Regardless of your goals in The Sims 4, having money is incredibly important. Money can either be an important tool for progress or prevent you from accomplishing anything if you find yourself short on funds.

Fortunately, there are a variety of methods for making money in Sims 4 that cater to a variety of playstyles, but not all are created equal and which method of money-making you choose will depend on how you want to play the game. All of these methods are proven to be some of the best moneymakers in the game with the right set up and strategy.

RELATED: The Best Game Packs For Sims 4, Ranked

Updated December 11, , by Helen Ashcroft: As The Sims 4 grows with new base game patches and DLC, the ways to make money have both increased and changed. There are new careers as well as career types and even existing systems, like gardening, have had an overhaul. In this update we take a look at more ideas for money making as well as adding in extra information about new ways to make some Simoleons using the methods already described. However you play your game, there's a money making method that's sure to work for you.

20 Opt For A Traditional Career

Careers are the most straight forward path to making money in the game. Your Sim wakes up, hopefully, grabs breakfast before heading out to hours of work and comes home to find some enjoyment before going to bed and starting the cycle over again, just like the real world.

Some careers can rake in some serious profits once a sim has climbed the corporate ladder and reached the upper tiers of income. Many players consider the Interstellar Smuggler to be the most profitable career which earns a whopping $3, a day at level ten!

Over time the number of careers has been increased and there are now several different types including active and work from home career types. You can find out more about the right job for your Sims in our complete careers guide.

19 Open A Business

Like the real world, opening a business in Sims 4 can be a fabulous way to make some serious money in the long run for those with the Get To Work expansion. It does take some initial effort and a hefty investment upfront to get it off the ground, but for the players that stick with it and find ways to stay solvent in the beginning, it’ll pay off big time.

RELATED: Sims 4: The 10 Most Lucrative Careers Your Sim Can Have

There’s a debate on which type of business is better but retail can be a great, straight forward business to start with and as each new pack comes out it offers more items to be sold, allowing for variety. Set up your store, choose your wares and be sure to charm those customers to see the profits roll in.

18 Run A Restaurant

If you have Dine Out, then opening a restaurant is another way to make money in an active way. Much like retail, it involves investing in a business, building your skills and keeping your customers happy.

Your Sim can take on any role in the business and you can hire others to act as hosts, serving staff or chefs alongside you. Managing everything can be tricky, especially when you start out, but get it right and the Simoleons will flow.

17 Become A Vet

If you have Cats & Dogs a new career is open in the form of running a Vet surgery. As with retail this involves initial investment but can be rewarding, lucrative and enjoyable.

Your Sim will learn the vet skill by practicing and as they become more skilled it is easier to begin to make money. While this isn't the fastest way to make money by any means it is fully hands-on making it a great choice for animal lovers or those who want a more challenging and interactive career.

16 Garden Your Way To Greatness

Arguably the second most profitable activity in the game, gardening can be a source of vast wealth for players who like to micromanage and strategize, especially since the free update that came with Seasons. In fact, things can get so hands-on that between all the planting, watering, harvesting, grafting, and evolving you’ll feel like your playing a game of Stardew Valley, rather than Sims 4.

RELATED: Sims 4: 10 Things The Best Gardeners Do

There’s a debate on the best crop to harvest as it’ll depend on your time commitments and setup, but many believe Unidentified Fruit Object is a great money maker. To keep things really simple players can create a massive garden of money trees and scoop up large sums of cash with every harvest.

15 Become A Painter

Painting is another great and easy way of making money in Sims 4 but it’s a very active process. To get started you don't have to pursue a standard career path of becoming a painter, but this grants access to high-quality easels and the art gallery which offers 20% more for paintings that your Sim sells, making it worth the hassle.

Once your Sim's skills are up to snuff they’ll start pumping out masterpieces that can go for thousands of dollars. It does take a while, but efficient players have been known to create two valuable paintings a day so this is definitely a profitable activity in the game.

14 Write That Novel

Once your Sim masters the art of writing they can write a book in four in-game hours that they can sell to the literary digest, a publisher or self-publish themselves.

Once published if the book is bestseller quality it will spit out royalty checks between $ every day for roughly 20 days. If you are dedicated you can have your Sim churn out dozens of books and have dozens of royalty checks coming in every day generating thousands of dollars. It’s also nice for adding in breaks as the checks will keep coming for a while after you stop writing.

13 Become A Musician

Music can also make money, in a similar way to painting and writing. Sims can learn to play instruments that unlock different ways to earn money from the skill.

You can play guitar, piano, violin or organ. Sims with any of these skills will be able to busk to earn money, either playing an instrument from their inventory or using a busking item from City Living.

RELATED: The Sims 4: 10 Tips To Pursuing A Career In Singing

Once they are at higher level of skill Sims can write music, which increases in quality and will earn royalties each day in the same way as books and poems do.

12 Take Photographs

Photography is more profitable than you may assume since high quality photos can sell for a good amount of money. You can pick up the photography skill with Get To Work, as well as some basic cameras and start clicking.

If you want to take your photography to the next level with better equipment and a tripod to minimize errors on your images then Moschino Stuff allows you to do this. It also allows you to do proper shoots and sell the images.

11 Get Hacking

This method of money-making comes with a certain amount of risk which can cut down on income but can make it more interesting than other forms of work. At the max skill level, Sims are able to hack supercomputers once a week for a thousand or so simoleons. In between supercomputer hacks players can do less profitable, but still worthwhile hacks for smaller lump sums.

As stated before it does come with risk. Meaning all your profits can go out the window if your computer gets damaged through a hack and you have to shell out a few thousand to replace it.

10 Become A More Legitimate Computer Programmer

Similar to the writing path, Sims that pursue computer programming can work their way up to creating computer games and mobile phone apps. These products can generate anywhere from $$ a day before slowly losing their earning potential until they don’t make anything.

It’s not nearly as profitable writing, but having a couple of products generating money can make a couple thousand each day and provide a semi-passive source of income that’s nice when your sim needs to step away from the computer now and then. Players with fewer morals will often combine this money-making method with hacking for serious earning potential.

9 Choose To Be Freelancer

Freelance careers allow Sims to structure being a writer, digital artist, programmer or, if you have Moschino Stuff, a fashion photographer. They enable Sims to join an agency and then complete specific tasks for clients.

RELATED: Sims 4 Get Famous: Social Media & Influencer Guide

Each task can be taken on an adhoc basis and will have its own deadline. Simply follow the instructions and watch your reputation grow. As it does more lucrative opportunities will become available.

8 Become A Content Creator

For those who dream of becoming a YouTube star, you can also now produce content and realize your ambitions with the Get Famous expansion. Through the media desk, you can make, edit and publish videos, raking in views and money as you go. If you also increase your fame, the views and cash will increase in line with it.

This is another career path where you can simply improve your skills and produce content as little or often as you like, allowing you to balance work and other gameplay.

7 Take On Part Time Or Odd Jobs

When Island Living was released part time jobs got an overhaul and are no longer just for teenagers. Some even have flexible hours. While they aren't the most lucrative choice, they make a great extra income if you want to mainly focus on something else such as University, which you can also attend from teen and above.

RELATED: 10 Things You Need To Know About The New Jobs & Careers In The Sims 4: Island Living

If you have Island Living you can also try out odd jobs. These are one of tasks that either involve attending a rabbit hole event or completing a task, usually something that needs to be done in Sulani.

6 Collect All The Things

A much-favored method of money-making used by rags to riches players, collecting can bring in the big bucks but requires some luck. The easiest and most profitable collectibles are actually frogs.

While ore can be harvested for crystals, if you can find a decent pair of valuable frogs you can breed them on cooldown and sell the extras for plenty of cash. Some frogs are worth a few hundred simoleons. Not to be sniffed at for literally two seconds work.

5 Become An Archaeologist

For more advanced collecting you can journey into Archaeology thanks to Jungle Adventure. The temples of Selvadorada include many traps but also yield huge treasures. As you uncover the relics of the past you'll start to realize that some can earn you a lot of money.

Digging, cleaning and identifying items will take some time, and skills, but it is an interactive, fun and somewhat risky way to earn some cash while also seeking adventure. If you fancy being the next Lara Croft or Indiana Jones, this is the path for you.

4 Go Fishing

Fishing is perhaps the least profitable method of making money on this list, but it can still bring in some serious cash. Catching and selling a high-quality sturgeon, for instance, can bring in $3, The catch is that fishing is entirely randomized so your earnings will vary each day.

That being said there are ways to guarantee decent earnings by picking the right locations, bringing the right bait and so on. Perhaps the greatest advantage of fishing is that there are little to no costs to get started and players can make instant money on day one.

3 Be A Black Widow Or Gold Digger

This is by far the fastest way to make the most amount of money in Sims 4. To get started simply create an attractive sim, find some poor sap who has spent a lifetime building a massive fortune, seduce them, and then bleed them dry in typical gold-digging fashion or quickly kill them and inherit their wealth as a black widow.

RELATED: The Sims 4: 9 Base Game Challenges That Don't Require DLC

It’s by far the vilest method of making money on the list, but there’s no denying the serious earning potential for very little effort. If you can live with yourself, this is the fastest way to become wealthy short of cheating. You can even make it into a challenge.

2 Make A Joint Effort

Perhaps the best way to ethically make the most amount of money in the short term and in the long run is to pursue any of the above activities, short of robbing someone blind, with the help of a spouse. Having one spouse with stable employment can help keep food on the table while your other Sim works on building a backlist of novels or builds a couple of apps. Having both Sims work together in the garden can generate some serious profits.

No matter how you slice it, two sets of hands are better than one and your Sim can create a vast fortune if they have a spouse either supplying assistance or financial stability while you get a few cash cows up and running.

1 Cheat

If in doubt, cheat. While careers are great if you simply don't have the patience, want to set up a storyline for a wealthy family or simply want to build, cheats are the answer.

To cheat you need to hit ctrl+shift+c on Pc or all four shoulder buttons on console. Once the text box appears type in testingcheats on and hit enter. You should get a message that cheats are enabled and can now enter codes. The code kaching grants you $, while motherlode gives your Sims $50, You can also type money to gain Simoleons equal to the number entered.
