Easy to use and not bad

Purchased my first car from there. Did see any difficulties there. The only issues I had were the credit payment, because you pay more fee on using your credit/debit card and the car has some rust underneath and it was not mentioned there. It was just saying minor scratch/damage. I couldn’t travel to see it myself but as I said not bad for my first experience. I’ve got my deposit back after the purchase.
** BUG FIX **
Can’t review reports after update. It gives me error from server.

Love the service, the app is a glitchy

Understand that this service has a lot of moving parts a few glitches are very understandable. Recently, its exceeded its allowability to go unmentioned. The biggest issue is the bids a not accurate. As soon as you place a bid prior to action it says you are outbid. Sometimes this will make it $1,000s of dollars more. I know the defense would be the “max bid” but that’s not true. You can have two different prices on two different devices. You will rarely win an auction unless you are present no matter how much you bid. Another issue is the photos are not staying with a vehicle. A lot of times you’ll find unrelated photos on a listing. As for the actual action, the music is rough during action time and sound awful after sitting for a while. You should be able to disable the music and not the auctioneer. It’s also a bit annoying that the photos are taken as soon as they turn the key on running and driving vehicles so you are unsure if the lights on the dash are from the starting cycle or actually indicate issues with the car as most of my purchases are sight unseen since I have to purchase out of state. The broker process could be streamlined in the app but it’s asking a lot. I wouldn’t mind download a preauction app to preview the vehicles and another to purchase if it is a data issue. Just some little errors I’ve found and I’ll gladly up my review should some of the issues be fixed but I do enjoy the service when operational.

5.6 Instantly crushing!

It was absolutely great working app but since they rolled out 5.5.X update it doesn’t load anymore and keeps crashing after a second. Iphone X. 12 iOS.

Update1: new update rolled out and still app is crashing.

Update 2: it’s been few weeks now since the infamous update rolled out. Few important auctions/vehicles missed since I couldn’t join the auctions. I’m pretty sure there are a lot of customers who has this problem, which means Copart is loosing some money, however from the other hand they are making tons of money from buyers and sellers so they won’t notice this problem ...

Update 3: Can’t send the email to Copart Mobile Tech Support, so given advice to contact them is not really helpful:
The group mobiletechsupport only accepts messages from people in its organization or on its allowed senders list, and your email address isn't on the list.

5.5.1 - App is crashing same way as the previous version.

5.5.2 is crashing. I really sad that I updated to 5.5 version. All 5.4 versions were working fine. Really sad that for a last few months developers can’t figure out how to fix the app. Lot of complaints from other users about same problem.

5.5.3 is still crashing. Looks like they don’t really care about reviews they get.

5.5.4 is crashing. Nice job, keep going, lol :)

5.6 keeping the pace - crushing instantly.

Hi HETPE3B, We're extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused by app crashes even after upgrading to 5.5.4. With the release of 5.5.4 we fixed most of the app launch crashes. Since it is happening to you from 5.5 version, could please contact us at [email protected] so that we can work with you in resolving this issue?

[1][2]

History[edit]

Founding[edit]

Copart was founded in 1982 by Willis J. Johnson, then a 34-year-old with ten years of experience in the auto salvage business, in Vallejo, California.[3]

"Take care of your pennies and your dollars will take care of themselves."

— Willis Johnson Jr.

Johnson began expanding Copart in the early 1990s through private loans and equity. By the early '90s, the company had grown to four locations in northern California; and by March 1994, it had added another eight new facilities in Oregon, Washington, and Texas, culminating in the acquisition of the largest volume seller of salvage in the United States, North Texas Salvage Pool of Dallas, Texas.[4]

Going Public[edit]

"Take care of the company and the company will take care of you."

— Willis Johnson Jr.

On March 17, 1994, Copart had its initial public offering (IPO) at $12 per share and debuted on the NASDAQ under the symbol "CPRT." Copart's IPO of 2.3 million shares of stock provided the company with the means to become a national company.[4]

In accordance with his philosophy of taking care of the people who take care of you, he bought his mother a new Cadillac that she would drive for the rest of her life.

National Expansion[edit]

In May 1995 Copart began rapid expansion in the United States with the sizable acquisition of NER Auction Group, doubling its number of facilities around the country. Copart would continue to grow via acquisitions and founded six new locations from July 1995 to July 1996. With locations spread coast-to-coast in the United States, Copart shifted tactics and began to procure regional and national contracts with the nation's leading insurance companies to grow a nationwide chain of facilities.[5] Copart has continued to acquire businesses, including National Powersport Auctions (NPA) in 2017.

Focus on Technology[edit]

Willis Johnson began developing Copart's information technology in the 1990s.[4][6][7]The first main step in this process was the creation of the Copart Auction System (CAS) in 1997, which was designed to unify and support the growing business as well as allow Copart facilities and sellers to access information, generate reports, and increase operating efficiencies.[3] The next step came in 1998 with Copart's introduction of internet bidding—a departure from the industry standard of local physical auctions.[8] As Internet bidding grew in popularity, Copart developed its online auction platform, VB2, which it implemented in 2003. VB2 opened the sales process to registered buyers (Members) and sellers worldwide.[7][9] In fiscal year 2004 in North America and fiscal year 2008 in the U.K., Copart discontinued all live auctions and began remarketing vehicles exclusively through VB2.[10][11]

Improved Online Auction Platform[edit]

In 2013, Copart upgraded its VB2 technology to a new version dubbed VB3. This version supported the latest browsers, eliminated the need for plugins and supported mobile interactivity.[12] Copart now sells more than one million vehicles each year through VB3 technology.[8][13]

International Expansion[edit]

By 2003, the company grew to 100 locations across the country and became the first to launch a completely online auction model. Today, Copart has more than 200 locations in 11 countries.[14]  A Canada yard opening marked the first international expansion in 2003.[15] By 2007, Copart grew its footprint overseas to the United Kingdom. In 2012, Copart began expanding to the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Bahrain, Oman, Spain, Ireland and Germany. Copart also expanded into Finland in 2018 with the acquisition of Autovahinkokeskus (AVK). [16] Additionally, the CashForCars.com brand launched in Canada in 2018, Germany in 2019 and the United Kingdom in 2020 with CashForCars.ca, CashForCars.de and CashForCars.co.uk, respectively
