Screened one Saturday or Sunday each month (except in October and December, when we highlight a series of classic horror and Christmas films, respectively), The News-Gazette Film Series is your ticket to Hollywood’s golden age.

Add house organist David Schroeder performing on the Virginia’s historic Hope Jones II Wurlitzer pipe organ, and you have an evening of entertainment fit for the whole family!

News-Gazette film critic Richard Leskosky will be back this season following most 7pm News-Gazette screenings for a post-show talk about each movie, in the Virginia lobby.

Washington High lineman named all-state by the Champaign News-Gazette

Timmy Malinowski, Washington

Washington senior Timmy Malinowski is in elite company.

The Panthers linebacker was the lone Journal Star-area football player named to the Champaign News-Gazette's 85th annual all-state first team, released Monday by the newspaper.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Pittsburg State commit was one of just five linebackers selected to the first team, which includes players across all of the state's eight classes.

Malinowski helped Washington to a 5-1 record and a share of the Mid-Illini Conference title. He had 40 tackles, six for loss, two sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also is rated as the top long snapper in the state and No. 17 nationally by Kohl's Professional Camps.

Another seven area players were named to the "special mention 100," also selected by the News-Gazette: Junior RB Seth Glatz of Morton, senior OL Andrew Polhemus of Metamora, senior DB Matt Martin of Eureka; senior QB Coltin Quagliano of Annawan/Wethersfield, senior RB/WR Jaxon McKay of Fieldcrest, senior RB Ronde Worrels of Princeton and senior OL Grant Foes of Princeton.

News-Gazette halts Monday publication

On Sunday, The News-Gazette announced it will no longer be printing a Monday edition starting this week.

“While we won’t have a Monday print edition, we will have all of Sunday’s news online, just as we do today,” said Jim Rossow, vice president of news, in an article published by The News-Gazette.

Paul Barrett, executive vice president and publisher of Champaign Multimedia Group, said to The News-Gazette elimination of the Monday edition will help reduce costs.

“We appreciate the incredible support of our readers as we move forward,” he said.

Delivery methods of The News-Gazette in rural areas will also be changing. Rural subscribers will now be receiving a Sunday package on Saturday and will not receive a Sunday edition at all. These subscribers will receive a summary of weekend news in the mail on Mondays.

Champaign-Urbana residents who subscribe to The News-Gazette will receive their papers as they have in the past, with the exception of the now-nonexistent Monday edition.

About this record

This screen shows the complete catalog entry of the title you selected.

The Film/Digital Notes contain a description of the microfilm or microfiche numbers. Some family history centers and libraries maintain collections of previously loaned microfilms or microfiche. A camera icon indicates items that are digitally available online.

Generally, catalog entries are written in the same language as the original record they describe.

Reasons why microfilms may not yet be available digitally on FamilySearch.org include:

  • The microfilm may be scheduled for future scanning.
  • The microfilm may have been scanned, but have a contractual, data privacy, or other restriction preventing access. FamilySearch makes every effort to enable access dependent on decisions of record custodians and applicable laws.
