Crystal ark survival

Crystal ark survival DEFAULT

Crystal is easiest to find at night or in low light. It is self illuminating, meaning that it glows from within. The bright light produced within crystal makes it stand out exceptionally well against darker settings.

The most common places to find Crystal are on many of the mountain tops, scattered across the plains in the snow biome, and throughout many of the caves on the Island. While this may sound quite dangerous, there are a few cases where you can get your hands on some crystal without much risk.

If you are on the East Coast of the Island you may well be able to venture into the edge of the snow biome near the shore to harvest some crystal. Be careful though, as the extreme cold will cause you steady injury if you aren't wearing Fur Armor. There are also a number of dangerous critters running around in the snowy regions.

Perhaps the easiest way to get your hands on some Crystal with very low risk would be to poke your head into a few of the caves on the Island. I've found crystal deposits just inside some of the caves before encountering any hostile life or dangerous enviromental conditions. I walked in, harvested and left. Wait for the resources to respawn and repeat. Some of these caves can also be found in very low threat areas. Just don't push your luck and venture too deep - unless, of course, you are ready for cave diving and adventure!

ARK: Survival Evolved - How to Farm Crystals

Quick Links

Crystals are a very versatile resource in ARK: Survival Evolved, as they can be used to make ocular devices, electronic components, or even powerful explosives and more. As such, players will want a ton of these crystalline goods, and, thankfully, there are plenty of ways to harvest them.

Since Crystals can be found sporadically all over the place, it is best to find a farming area that is loaded with dense amounts of the stuff instead of traipsing all around the various regions in ARK: Survival Evolved to find them. There are also better methods than others for farming based on one's preferences and equipment as well as the player's non-human allies.

Where To Find Crystals

General Spawning Pattern Of Crystal Nodes

Regardless of what map one is on in ARK: Survival Evolved, Crystals tend to spawn the most on top of mountains as well as in caves and in snow biomes, so these are the places that players should look first if they are seeking Crystals. While their most common harvestable node appearance is as geometrical bursts of white growth, Crystals can also be found within the stalactites (the ceiling spikes--not the ground ones known as stalagmites) of caverns.

Where To Find Lots Of Crystals

If players don't want to manually search for the spawn points of nodes that yield Crystals, players can check out a very detailed interactive map for more specific location information regarding this resource (and more).

A great spot to remember for farming Crystals is a mountain in the northeast part of The Island map called The Frozen Tooth (Latitude 35; Longitude 58). There are tons of white crystal growths to be found at the summit, however, since the slopes are very steep, it is recommended to fly there and back for convenience and efficiency.

The Best Ways To Harvest Crystals

Most players will simply use a Pickaxe of some kind to harvest Crystals from the nodes that drop them, however, this is not the only option--in fact, it's not even the most efficient. The 2 creatures that can allow players to gain the most Crystal per action are Dunkleosteus and Ankylosaurus. These animals are much better optimized to gather and hold tons of Crystals in their inventories, so definitely consider bringing one of these organisms along the next time one sets out to farm Crystals.

When compared to a Metal Pickaxe, the aforementioned creatures are more efficient, however, the Mantis is also quite handy in gathering Crystals due to it possessing the same effectiveness as a Metal Pickaxe.

Though, with all that said, getting either a Dunkleosteus or Ankylosaurus up a steep mountain or into a deep cave can pose obvious logistics issues, so, players may wish to swap out a bit of Crystal-gain efficiency for mobility-related convenience. Despite gaining somewhat fewer Crystals per action than even a standard Metal Pickaxe, a Phoenix can still be very useful for harvesting nodes that drop Crystals. The lack of harvesting efficiency is offset by the fact that Phoenixes can travel much faster than most other creatures and can allow one to travel between their favorite Crystal farming spots much quicker while not having to dismount, making up for the less ideal Crystal-yield by speeding up any and all traveling needs.

ARK Crystal

One of the more valuable resources that players can find in Ark is Crystal, a clear and slightly rare find resource that is used for more advanced items.

Being a rarer resource, it is always best to harvest as much as you can, especially if you are far away from its farming location.

While Crystal is valuable, it is also heavy, making it even harder to collect for those who have just started or lack means of carrying items.

How to Get Crystal?

Crystal can be obtained by using specific creatures that can attack rocks and other minerals or by using a Pick or Mining Drill.

Few creatures can harvest Crystal, the more common ones being an Ankylosaurus, Mantis, or a Dunkleosteus when underwater.

Using a Pick is the most common way when first starting out but later on it is logical to tame a creature to make harvesting easier.

It is possible to obtain Crystal by harvesting the dead bodies of Rock Elementals, but killing them may be a bit tedious, and a Giganotosaurus is recommended.

Best Way to Get Crystal

The best way to Get crystal is to use an Ankylosaurus or a Mantis that is equipped with a Pick, but later on, when you can make one, a Mining Drill is a better option.

An Ankylosaurus is a good creature to use and even better when you have another player carrying it with a flyer so that one player will attack with Ankylosaurus while the other flies them around.

Using an Argentavis is a good early game technique to bring your overweight Ankylosaurus around and you can even store Crystal in its inventory for reduced weight.

Crystal is more common in certain locations on specific maps where some may be scarce while others have plentiful amounts of it.

Eventually, you will need a good amount of Crystal if you are to advance into later stages of the game where you will start crafting industrial structures or later on Tek.

Making use of creatures to harvest and carry Crystal is a wise choice as this resource can easily encumber you.

Later on, when you can craft a Mining Drill, it will be much easier for you to farm Crystal as you will be able to carry more and harvest in larger amounts.

Crystal is a resource in ARK: Survival Evolved used for crafting various items. It is especially useful in the end-game.

Crystal are best gathered with a metal pick or with certain creatures; stone picks can work but provide a very low drop chance. It can be acquired by mining white crystals. White crystals are the primary source which can be mined, stalactites in caves also provide crystal. Some others are just decorative. An even better way to gather crystal is the lunar biome on genesis by harvesting the crystal bushes with a Bronto, this can be boosted even more with a mate on a Deinonychus, because a Deinonychus can jump equally how much weight the rider has.

Weight Reduction[]

The following creatures reduce the weight of Crystal by the listed amount while it is in their inventory:

In the Extinction DLC, crystals can be harvested from Lampposts, Benches and Tables in the Sanctuary.

In the Aberration DLC, crystals can be harvested from Green Gem (Aberration), Blue Gem (Aberration), or Red Gem (Aberration) patches at a much higher efficiency than white crystal patches. White crystals are also much more rare, with the colored gems being common throughout the map.

Crystal can be found in caves throughout the Ark, as well as near the top of mountains and in the snow biome.

Below are all of the crystal locations for The Island. For a larger map including the other resources, see the Strategic Resource Map.

  • The Frozen Tooth at 35 latitude and 58 longitude has extremely high quantities of crystal deposits at and around the summit. However caution is advised while attempting to descend the mountain, as it is extremely steep and quite easy to trip and fall.
  • For a low level character there is a small mountain in the Southern Islets at around latitude and longitude which has a small supply of crystal. The eastern side of the mountain is easy to climb, and the area itself is fairly benign, hosting mostly low level herbivores with the occasional Raptor and rare Carno.
