Cone Health extends deadline for employees to get vaccinated

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) &#; Cone Health employees now have until Oct. 28 to get their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines to meet employee vaccination requirements.

The initial deadline set out was Oct. 1.

Cone Health says they want to give employees every opportunity to become vaccinated and keep their jobs. Since the vaccination requirement was announced July 22, the FDA fully approved the Pfizer COVID coronavirus vaccine. In addition, the government announced that it will not allow health care organizations to care for Medicare and Medicaid patients unless they have vaccination policies.  

“We want to provide team members with ample time to consider all new information,” says Cone Health CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle. “We hope that team members still considering vaccination will make the choice to receive the vaccine and continue caring for our communities during this critical time and beyond.” 

For employees using the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shot, the deadline remains Oct. 1.

Cone Health employees now have longer to comply with vaccine mandate

Cone Health is extending its deadline for employees to comply with its COVID vaccine mandate. The Cone Health system includes multiple healthcare practices within Alamance County including Alamance Regional Medical Center. 

Employees were previously given until Oct. 1 to be fully vaccinated. The deadline has now been extended to Oct. 28 for employees to receive the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. Those choosing the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine must still be vaccinated by the original Oct. 1 deadline. 

Since the vaccination requirement was announced to employees on July 22, the federal government announced healthcare organizations won't be allowed to treat Medicare and Medicaid patients without having a vaccine mandate. 

“We want to provide team members with ample time to consider all new information,” said Cone Health CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle. “We hope that team members still considering vaccination will make the choice to receive the vaccine and continue caring for our communities during this critical time and beyond.” 

Employees were allowed to request a medical or religious exemption, but the deadline to make those requests has passed. 

Cone Health is not reporting compliance numbers until after the Oct. 28 deadline.
