The weapon slot.

Weapons are wieldableitems that a player can use to inflict damage in Combat.

All players wield weapons in their right hand. If a player is using a two-handed weapon, such as a bow or a two-handed sword, they may not have any items equipped in the Shield slot at the same time, thus two-handed weapons are held in both hands preventing the use of a shield. In the case of thrown weapons, which are stackable, multiples of the same thrown weapon may be equipped in the Weapon slot at once. A player may also equip a pickaxe or a Woodcuttingaxe in the weapon slot so that they may hold more ore or logs, respectively.

Basic melee weapons

These weapons are more commonly used than the other weapons available because they don't have to be replaced unless upon death, and they do not require ammunition to use unlike most Magic or Ranged weapons. Most types of basic Melee weapons come in eight different kinds of metal.

Most weapons have a primary attack mode in all three attack styles and a secondary mode in the Aggressive or Controlled style. The secondary mode is normally weaker, but it may be more appropriate to your target.

Chainmail armour is weaker against stabbing; platemail is weaker against crushing, while the slash attack is highly effective against cloth, leather or unarmoured targets. Against monster hide, the most effective style varies. The only absolute Defence against a particular attack is the Protect from Melee prayer, or the occasional NPC that requires something special to kill them, so you will still hit with the "wrong" attack and weapon, just not as often and with less damage (or not even at all, in the case of monsters like vampyres).

Weapon groups

Overall, there are four attack styles: accurate, aggressive, defensive, and controlled. The first three add a hidden bonus of +3 to attack, strength, and defence, respectively. Controlled adds a hidden bonus of +1 to each of the three melee combat stats. Stab, Slash, and Crush are the three possible damage types. Different damage types are more effective against different types of armour or monster.

15 Best Spec Weapons in Old School RuneScape (Ranked)

Special attacks in OSRS have a variety of uses, from dealing massive amounts of damage to lowering defence.

Each special attack is useful depending on the situation you find yourself in.

And generally, special attacks are there to make your life just a tiny bit easier. This can be from making a boss fight easier, or helping a skilling activity go by a little faster.

I personally make use of special attacks constantly &#; they are way too useful to ignore.

Let’s go through the best special attack weapons in Old School RuneScape that’ll make your sessions that much easier.

Excalibur

Excalibur Weapon OSRS Render

Starting off this list is the sword of legend: Excalibur!

Its special is called “Sanctuary” which uses % of the special bar, and temporarily raises your defence level by +8.

One of the reasons this sword just barley makes it into the list in this spot is due to its status as a reward from a quest &#; making this entirely free to obtain.

While this special is not often used by many players, it can be helpful for early game ironmen who need a boost in defence for dangerous activities.

Especially since in the early game they won’t’ have access to super defence potions.

Ultimately you’ll retire this famous sword at some point. But it is a beautiful weapon, and could save your life in a bind.

How to get: Obtained from the Lady of the Lake in the quest “Merlin’s Crystal”.

Dragon Battleaxe

Dragon Battleaxe OSRS Render

Raarrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!

That’s the epic scream you’ll make (literally) while using the Dragon Battleaxe’s special attack.

“Rampage” causes the player to lift the axe above their head while screaming a battle cry!

Your special bar will use % of its energy, while draining your Defence, Attack, Range, and Magic levels by 10%.

In exchange, you’ll get an increase in strength of 10 levels + (levels drained / 4).

Used correctly, this special can temporarily boost your strength by a whopping 21 levels, the biggest boost in OSRS.

Many people use this weapon in conjunction with a super restore, or with an ornate pool, to restore their drained stats and keep the strength boost.

How to get: The Dragon Battleaxe can be bought from the Hero’s Guild.

Staff of the Dead

Staff of the Dead OSRS Render

Summoning the spirits of the dead can result in some spooky results.

The Staff of the Dead has a special attack called “Power of Death” and uses % of your special energy for it.

Using this special offers protection from opponent melee attacks. All melee damage you receive is halved, making this an amazing weapon for tanking enemies &#; or for preserving food in a getaway attempt.

The overall effects last up to one minute.

But the effects will also only last while the staff is equipped.

So be sure to leave the staff equipped for a full minute to enjoy the protection to the fullest.

How to get: The only way to obtain this is as a drop from K’ril Tsutsaroth, who can be found in the God War Dungeon. The drop rate is fairly rare at 1/

Ancient Mace

Ancient Mace OSRS Render

This is a very niche weapon in the game.

It’s only used for its special attack, and only in very particular circumstances.

This special is named “Favour of the War God” and uses % of your special attack energy.

With it, this special allows you to hit through another player’s protect from melee prayer &#; and will drain the opponent’s prayer points for whatever damage they receive.

In exchange, your prayer points will be restored by whatever was drained from your opponent.

In a PvP setting this is often used by lures to smite unsuspecting players of their +1 item, so always be wary if you see this in the Wilderness.

In PvM, people often use this on their undead combat dummies, in their homes, to maximize their prayer points, and to provide points above your base prayer level.

This can be very useful for fight cave attempts where prayer is rationed.

How to get: The mace is acquired during the quest “Another Slice of HAM”. Completion of the quest is required to wield it as well.

Toxic Blowpipe

Toxic Blowpipe Render from OSRS

The Toxic blowpipe is probably the best range weapon in the entire game in terms of versatility and usefulness.

So it’s only fitting that it has a great special attack too.

“Toxic Siphon” uses 50% of the special attack bar, and heals you by 50% of the damage dealt.

For example, a hit of 20 on your opponent would heal you by 10 hitpoints.

This can be very useful in almost any situation because it saves you food, as well as game ticks, since you don’t’ have to waste time eating when you could be attacking.

Toxic Siphon has also become something of a meme in the OSRS community, as many players who use the special in a bind could hit back to back 0’s &#; resulting in them either dying or wasting food.

How to get: Zulrah who drops a Tanzanite Fang. Then the fang must be crafted into the blowpipe, which requires level 53 Fletching.

Dragon Spear

Dragon Spear Render from OSRS

This special attack is rather infamous, as it’s mostly used by players who are attempting to lure players into multi-combat areas within the Wilderness.

“Shove” quite literally does as the name suggests: shoving the user’s opponent in whichever direction you’re facing (and also stuns your foe).

This uses a total of 25% of the special bar.

Your opponent will not be able to eat, move, teleport, or do much of anything for the time they’re stunned (3 seconds).

Many teams of Pk’ers will all spam a single opponent with multiple specials, pushing them into multi-attack areas where they can be smited and killed with ease.

How to get: To obtain the Dragon Spear you need to either get very lucky on the rare drop table, or this can be obtained as a rare drop from Brutal Black Dragons.

9. Dark Bow

Dark Bow OSRS Render Preview

As another PvP weapon, the Dark Bow’s special is used as a “Knock Out” attack to finish off opponents with overwhelming force.

The special attack actually has the highest potential max hit out of any weapon in the entire game &#; provided you have Dragon Arrows equipped.

“Decent of Darkness” with Dragon Arrows equipped fires two arrows which deal up to 50% more damage than base, with a minimum possible hit of 8.

The total damage per arrow can be a maximum of 48 here. That means an astounding possible total of 96 damage.

Talk about overpowered!

The bow also only uses 55% of the special attack bar each time.

How to get: Dark Beasts, requiring level 90 Slayer to kill, will drop the Dark Bow. The best place to kill these would be in the Mourner’s Tunnels or in the Catacombs of Kourend.

8. Dragon Harpoon

Dragon Harpoon OSRS Preview

Finally, our first skilling special on this list!

The dragon harpoon is often used for AFK’ing sharks, and is equippable unlike the normal harpoon.

So this’ll help you save an inventory space as well.

It also has a 20% faster catch rate than normal harpoons.

“Fishstabber” uses % of the special attack bar and temporarily boosts your fishing level by +3.

Note that you’ll need to wield the harpoon to use this special, and this requires a minimum of level 60 attack.

How to get: Wyrms located in Mount Karuulm have a very rare chance to drop the harpoon at 1/ To increase these odds, you can get a slayer task of Wyrms, reducing this drop rate to 1/ (%).

7. Armadyl Godsword

Armadyl Godsword OSRS Render

Here’s another very strong PvP “Knock Out” weapon.

The AGS has impressive stats by itself, and an even more impressive special attack used by many Pk’ers.

It’s one of the most common special attack weapons in PvP due to its relatively medium cost lvel, encouraging risk fights, and powerful special.

“The Judgement” consumes only 50% of the special attack bar, and ensures that accuracy is doubled, while also dealing % more damage than you normally would!

This means you have a better chance to hit, and can deal very high damage &#; with hits in the 70’s not being uncommon.

Since this special also only uses 50%, it can be used back to back for devastating results.

How to get: The only way to obtain this is as a drop from Kree’arra who can be found in the God War Dungeon. The drop rate of the Armadyl hilt is fairly rare at 1/ Once the hilt is obtained, you’ll need to use it on a Godsword Blade to build the Godsword.

6. Dragon Axe

Dragon Axe OSRS Render

The Dragon Axe, which is 10% better than a Rune Axe, is in the same family as the Dragon Harpoon (they share a similar special attack).

“Lumber Up” consumes % of the special attack bar, and temporarily boosts the user’s Woodcutting level by +3.

Note that just like the Dragon Harpoon, you’ll also need to wield this axe to use this special.

And this does also require a level 60 attack to equip.

If you want to utilize this special with maximum efficiency then I would recommend training in the Woodcutting Guild.

The guild offers an invisible boost to Woodcutting while you’re there, which will stack with the axe’s special attack.

How to get: The DKS drop the Dragon Axe, otherwise you’ll need to get very lucky at Wintertod which has a 1/ chance to drop this.

5. Dragon Pickaxe

Dragon Pickaxe OSRS Render

You might have guessed already, but the Dragon Pickaxe continues the same trends we’ve seen on the harpoon and the axe mentioned earlier.

“Rock Knocker” uses a total of % of the special attack bar, and temporarily boosts your Mining level by +3.

And just like the Axe and Harpoon, you’ll need to wield the pickaxe to use this special, and you also need a minimum of 60 attack to equip this in the first place.

How to get: All of the bosses, excluding demi-bosses, drop the Dragon Pickaxe. I would personally recommend grinding Calisto for this drop as he is easy to lure and gear for.

4. Bandos Godsword

Bandos Godsword OSRS Render

Reducing an opponent’s defence is very important in PvM.

And the Bandos Godsword does an amazing job of doing just that, with its powerful special attack.

“Warstrike” uses 50% of the special attack bar and doubles accuracy, plus deals approximately 21% more damage, and reduces your opponent’s stats in the following order:

Defence, Strength, Prayer, Attack, Magic, Range.

This effect is insanely good in PvM, considering the special can be used back to back (and the effects stack)!

The BGS is often used for bosses like Corporeal Beast when you’re lower defence, or in solo runs.

This weapon is also not very expensive compared to a Dragon Warhammer, costing only around 8m.

How to get: The only way to obtain this is as a drop from General Graador who can be found in the God War Dungeon. The drop rate of the Bandos hilt is fairly rare at 1/ Once you have the hilt, you’ll need to use it on a Godsword Blade to build the Godsword.

3. Crystal Halberd (i)

Crystal Halberd imbued OSRS render

This weapon requires the Western Province Hard diary to wield, and the C-Hally offers a really great free special attack weapon if you’re willing to grind the diary to obtain it.

This special attack “Sweep” uses 30% of the special attack bar, and it hits normal sized enemies for a 10% increase in damage, and large enemies will get hit twice.

However, that second hit will have a reduced 25% accuracy.

Ultimately this weapon is used as a budget version of the Dragon Claws.

It’s free to obtain and still quite powerful, so definitely deserves a spot in this list.

How to get: After completing the Western Province Elite Diary you can take a Crystal Weapon seed to Ilfeen who will create one for you.

2. Dragon Claws

Dragon Claws OSRS Preview

These are a great many PvM and PvP weapons that are solely used for their special attacks.

And some players have called them overpowered.

This might be one such example.

The special attack here is “Slice and Dice” which uses 50% of the special attack bar, and hits any opponent four times at once.

This amount of damage can quickly stack up. Especially when the special is used back to back.

In PvP, players can hit huge amounts of damage in a single special, sometimes up to damage on opponents with lower defence.

In PvM, this weapon’s special is often used at places where both slash and stab are the monster’s weakness.

Vasa and Bloat, both raid bosses, are especially weak to Dragon Claws. So these claws make the fights go by much faster!

Ultimately this God-tier weapon is the king of melee DPS in OSRS.

How to get: This is only obtainable as a drop from The Chamber of Xeric.

1. Dragon Warhammer

Dragon Warhammer OSRS Render

Picking a number one spot for this list was not easy.

However, if any single special attack is deserving of the number one spot, it’s the Dragon Warhammer’s special.

PvM has always been the cornerstone of OSRS.

And the Dragon Warhammer’s special attack “Smash” is taken to almost every single boss who has a high defence level.

“Smash” uses 50% of the special attack bar, and if you land a successful hit, your foe’s defence is reduced by 30%.

This can be used back to back and the effect does stack, which means when this is used in teams, a monster’s defence can be reduced to almost zero.

As you can imagine, this makes them very… squishy.

The DWH costs about 40m on the Grand Exchange. But it is worth every penny.

And some teams will even demand that you have this weapon to even be considered for a team.

How to get: The DWH is only obtainable as a drop from Lizardman Shamans at a drop rate of 1/ (%). You could also buy this if you have enough gold. It’s quite a tedious grind but totally worth it!

[Top 15] Old School RuneScape Best Weapons (And How To Get Them)

Ever wondered what the best osrs weapons are?

Being an MMO, Old School RuneScape has a heck of a lot of weapons to choose from. What’s worse is that there isn’t a clear-cut answer as to which weapon is the “best”, making the process of choosing your weapon a complicated one; but rest easy, weary traveller, for I have compiled a list of the top 15 OSRS weapons that are worth your time. Now let’s get cracking with that list, shall we?

Dragon Scimitar (Ol’ reliable)

Dragon scimitar

nothing needs to be this pretty

The Dragon Scimitar needs no introduction, it’s been the weapon of choice for countless players due to its cost-effective damage and relentlessly fashionable design. It’s usable by players who have an attack of 60 and have completed the “Monkey Madness 1” quest. It can be bought in Ape Atoll for , coins from Dagaz.

The sword also boasts a neat little special attack for your PVP endeavours: “Sever”. At the cost of 55% of your special attack energy, this special hits with increased accuracy and prevents the target prayer from casting the “Protect from Missiles”, “Protect from magic” and “Protect from melee” prayers. This is the kind of sword you’d take home to meet your mother, it’s there for you in a pinch and it won’t forget to water your plants when you’re out of town.

stats:

  • +8 stab attack
  • +67 slash attack
  • -2 crush attack
  • +1 slash defence
  • +66 strength

What makes the Dragon Scimitar awesome:

  • Cost-effective
  • Respectable stat bonuses

Saradomin Godsword (High sustain for mob grinding)

Saradomin godsword

imagine trying to fit this thing into a sheath

What a beaut! The Saradomin Godsword is the best of the 4 godswords in osrs and requires 75 attack to wield, it’s particularly useful for grinding or doing slayer tasks because its special attack will save you a chunk of time and a heap of gold. “But what’s this special attack?” I hear you ask. Well, dear reader, the Saradomin Godsword can perform “Healing Blade”.

This special will cost 50% of the player’s special attack energy but will grant the player +10% max hit, doubled accuracy, and it restores 50% HP & 25% prayer. Needless to say, you’ll be able to hunker down and slay as many beasties as you’d like without having to restock. But it doesn’t end there; this sword packs a wallop when it comes to stats, granting the player a whopping + to slash and strength as well as +80 to crush.

If high sustain and damage with slower hits sound like your type of deal, you’ll definitely want to consider adding this little number to your arsenal.

stats:

  • + slash attack
  • +80 crush attack
  • + strength
  • +8 prayer

What makes the Saradomin Godsword awesome:

  • High stat bonuses
  • Killer special attack
  • Long-term time and gold saver

Abyssal Dagger (Go-to strength trainer)

Abyssal dagger

that's a lot of pointy stuff!

This coveted little blade isn’t just the best dagger in the game, it’s also been crowned the best 1-handed strength trainer in the game due to its high DPS, making it a great choice for many players. It requires 70 attack to wield and can also be poisoned for some sneaky damage over time.

As for its special: While wielding the weapon, the player may perform “Abyssal puncture” for 50% special attack energy. This attack hits twice in quick succession and has a 25% accuracy increase with 15% reduced damage. The weapon grants the player (most notably) +75 stab and +40 slash.

stats:

  • +75 stab attack
  • +40 slash attack
  • -4 crush attack
  • +1 magic attack
  • +1 magic defence
  • +75 strength

What makes the Abyssal Dagger awesome:

  • Best dagger in the game
  • Best 1-handed weapon for strength training
  • Can be poisoned

How to get the Abyssal Dagger (purchasable at the grand exchange): https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_oldschool/Abyssal+dagger/viewitem?obj=

Abyssal Dagger details: https://oldschoolrunescape.fandom.com/wiki/Abyssal_dagger

Abyssal Whip (Great attack trainer)

Abyssal whip

the barbershop pole of whips

It was a tough decision between the Abyssal Whip and the Tentacle Whip, but this weapon comes out ahead of its squishy sibling because: it doesn’t degrade as you use it, it’s easier to get your hands on, and it doesn’t need to be maintained. While the damage might be a little lower, its stats are no laughing matter and it’s still one of the best 1-handed weapons available. The Abyssal Whip requires an attack of 70 to wield and provides the player with +82 slash and strength.

Much like my mother when she asks me if I’ve got a girlfriend yet, the whip’s special attack is “energy drain”. This consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy and increases accuracy by 25% while transferring 10% of the target’s run energy to the player during PVP.

stats:

  • +82 slash attack
  • +82 strength

What makes the Abyssal Whip awesome:

  • Great attack training option
  • Offensive-focused
  • Makes it difficult for enemies to flee during PVP

Scythe of Vitur (AOE damage)

Scythe of vitur

who's blood is that?

The Scythe of Vitur truly is an interesting one. Being one of only 2 scythes in the game (the other being a regular old garden Scythe), it’s a weapon type we don’t get to see too often. This is a real shame considering it severely limits Grim Reaper cosplaying opportunities. That being said, this weapon holds its own on the battlefield.

The Scythe requires 75 attack and strength to wield and provides the player with some fun stat bonuses. while the scythe has no active special attack, it allows the player to hit up to 3 targets at once (1 by 3 area) at any given time. The weapon can also be charged to dramatically increase its stats. Players must add at least one vial of blood and a set of  blood runes to the Vyre Well next to the bank in Ver Sinhaza to charge it and increase its stats.

stats:

  • +70 stab attack
  • + slash attack
  • +30 crush attack
  • -6 magic attack
  • -2 stab defence
  • +8 slash defence
  • +10 crush defence
  • +75 strength

What makes the Scythe of Vitur awesome:

  • AOE damage
  • Decent base stats
  • Can be made stronger

Armadyl Godsword (High potential PVP finisher)

Armadyl godsword

another instance of "how the heck am I supposed to sheathe this thing?"

Now I know what you’re about to say: “Kaival, why did you put this weapon on the list after explicitly stating that the Saradomin Godsword is the best Godsword? You silly goose”. Firstly, allow me to compliment your attentiveness!

Secondly, while the Saradomin Godsword definitely stands its ground as the best of the bunch, the Armadyl Godsword fills a very particular role that its brother does not: big damage!

The Armadyl Godsword has the same stats and requirements as the Saradomin Godsword. The main difference is the special attack, “The Judgement”.

This attack consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy and performs an attack with a value (after some complicated math stuff) % higher maximum hit than a normal attack, making this weapon the coup de grâce to your PVP match.

stats:

  • + slash attack
  • +80 crush attack
  • + strength
  • +8 prayer

What makes the Armadyl Godsword awesome:

  • High base stats
  • Fantastic special attack for pvp encounters

How to get the Armadyl Godsword (purchasable at the grand exchange): https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_oldschool/Armadyl+godsword/viewitem?obj=

9. Dragon Claws (Accurate PVP finisher)

Dragon claws

you'd never be able to pick up a spoon while wearing these things

While the Armadyl Godsword has the potential to hit some massive numbers, it’s not the most accurate of weapons. That’s why the Dragon Claws are another popular choice when it comes to PVP finishers. People use Dragon Claws for the same reason they eat fibre- consistency.

Equipping the Dragon Claws requires 60 attack and grants the player (most notably) +56 strength, +57 slash and +41 stab. Now onto the real reason these claws are such a good pic- their special attack, “Slice and Dice”.

Often used as a finisher, this attack hits an enemy 4 times in quick succession. Each one of these attacks has the accuracy of a normal attack, but if one of the attacks lands, the following attacks in the combo are guaranteed to hit, making this weapon highly accurate.

stats:

  • +41 stab attack
  • +57 slash attack
  • -4 crush attack
  • +13 stab defence
  • +26 slash defence
  • +7 crush defence
  • +56 strength

What makes the Dragon Claws awesome:

  • High accuracy finisher
  • Decent base stats
  • Reliable in PVP

How to get the Dragon Claws (purchasable at the grand exchange): https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_oldschool/Dragon+claws/viewitem?obj=

8. Twisted Bow (Ranged bossing)

Twisted bow

too bad nobody can afford it

Moving on to ranged weapons, we have the Twisted Bow. Aside from its exorbitant price, a standout feature of this weapon is just how great it is at taking down monsters with a high magic level. The Twisted Bow requires a ranged level of 75 to wield and grants the player +70 ranged attack and +20 ranged strength. The bow can fire any type of arrow and it sports an attack range of 10 squares.

The Twisted Bow’s ace-up-the-sleeve comes in the form of its passive, which buffs the player’s damage and accuracy according to the magic level/ magic accuracy (whichever is higher) of the monster. Mathematical nonsense aside, the weapon’s accuracy caps at and its damage caps at , making this bow a formidable weapon against any spell-slinging nasties.

stats:

  • +70 ranged attack
  • +20 ranged strength

What makes the Twisted Bow awesome:

  • Unique and powerful passive
  • Ability to fire any arrow type

How to get the Twisted Bow (purchasable at the grand exchange): https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_oldschool/Twisted+bow/viewitem?obj=

7. Toxic Blowpipe (Jack of all trades)

Toxic blowpipe

looks like a flamboyant scorpion

Raids? Done! GWD? You got it! Slayer bosses? No problem! Ranged training? Absolutely! The Toxic Blowpipe may not be the most fashion-forward of the ranged weapons, but it sure as heck isn’t going to let the funny looks it gets from its neighbours stop it from being an absolute beast of versatility.

The Toxic Blowpipe requires a range level of 75 to equip and grants the player with +35 ranged attack, +20 ranged strength and an attack range of 5 squares. That may not be the most impressive, but consider the fact that it has one of the fastest attack speeds in the game and we’ve got ourselves a real winner. During PVP, the attack speed is 3 ticks and 4 ticks during PVE.

On top of that, the weapon has a 25% chance of inflicting venom on the player’s target. This chance is boosted to % if the player also equips a Serpentine Helm. The Toxic Blowpipe has one last little surprise for us in its special attack, “Toxic Siphon”.

At the cost of 50% of the player’s special attack energy, they’re buffed with % increased accuracy and 50% increased damage while also healing the player with a value equal to half the damage dealt.

stats:

  • +30 ranged attack
  • +20 ranged strength

What makes the Toxic Blowpipe awesome:

  • Versatility
  • High attack speed
  • Venom chance
  • Valuable special attack

How to get the Toxic Blowpipe (purchasable at the grand exchange): https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_oldschool/Toxic+blowpipe+%28empty%29/viewitem?obj=

6. Armadyl Crossbow (Worthwhile investment)

Armadyl crossbow

must be super hard to load this thing

The Armadyl Crossbow is the fancy-looking ranged murder weapon you’ve always wanted. Arguably the best crossbow in the game (we’ll talk about the Dragon Hunter crossbow in just a minute), the Armadyl Crossbow is the reason your trusty ol’ rune crossbow is sitting in your bank, collecting dust. It’s got some notable improvements such as higher damage, higher range, stronger bolts, a special attack and it’s the only crossbow with a prayer bonus.

Equipping the Armadyl Crossbow requires a ranged level of 70 and grants the player + ranged attack, +1 prayer and an attack range of 8 squares. The crossbow’s special attack is “Armadyl Eye”, which consumes 50% of the player’s special attack energy and doubles the accuracy of the next shot, it also doubles the chances of an enchanted bolt’s special effect to occur.

stats:

  • + ranged attack
  • +1 prayer

What makes the Armadyl Crossbow awesome:

  • Worthwhile upgrade from rune
  • Useful special attack
  • Reasonable price

How to get the Armadyl Crossbow (purchasable at the grand exchange): https://secure.runescape.com/m=itemdb_oldschool/Armadyl+crossbow/viewitem?obj=

5. Dragon Hunter Crossbow (Best ranged dragon slayer)

Dragon hunter crossbow

man, dragon heads are cool

The Dragon Hunter Crossbow is the comfort food of ranged dragon slaying. It fills a more niche role than the Armadyl Crossbow in that it’s designed specifically for slaying dragons, making it a great option if you’re farming hides for gold.

The Crossbow requires 65 range to wield and grants the player +95 ranged attack and an attack range of 7 squares. The crossbow’s passive (the reason people use this weapon) is that when it’s used against draconic creatures (Wyverns and Dragons), it gains 30% accuracy and 25% damage. It has no special attack but that’s okay because it’s already so great at what it does.

stats:

What makes the Dragon Hunter Crossbow awesome:

  • Great for gold farming

4. Dwarf Multicannon (Hands-off farming)

Dwarf multicannon

using this thing feels like cheating

Now, this is an interesting one. The Dwarf Multicannon isn’t an equipable weapon but it sure as heck makes itself useful for farming as your loyal little murder pal. Once set up, the Dwarf Multicannon will attack any nearby enemies. Using the cannon requires the completion of “Dwarf Cannon”, a short quest about the conflict between a dwarven mining site and some local goblins.

What makes the Dwarf Multicannon such a fantastic tool is that it automatically attacks while the player does their own thing, serving as a great XP-granting teammate for killing more things, faster. And at the end of the day, isn’t killing more things faster all we really want to do?

Stats osrs weapon

For the maximum bonuses for each stat bonus, see Armour/Highest bonuses.

For a complete list of bonuses on items worn in a slot see this page
Equipment Stats.png

Equipment Stats (also called equipment bonuses, combat stats, or bonuses) are the bonuses given by the armour and weapons that a player is wearing. The bonuses of a player can be found in the Worn Equipment section of the player interface. In general, higher level items give greater bonuses than their lower-level counterparts. Some items that can be equipped do not actually posses any bonuses, e.g. the Brass necklace. The bonuses an item provides are placed into three different categories: Attack bonus, Defence bonus, and Other bonuses. These bonuses, in addition to level of the player's relevant combat skills and the attack style used, are used to calculate both the damage dealt and received during combat, and the likelihood of an attack being successful.

Attack bonuses

Attack bonuses are compared against the relevant defence bonuses of an enemy to determine the likelihood of hitting an enemy.

The attack style used by a player determines which attack bonuses will be compared against their opponents defence bonuses in that style. If a player chose to use a slashing style, then their slashing attack bonuses would be compared against their opponents slashing defence bonuses in order to determine what damage was dealt from the attack.

Weapons usually have a certain style that they have particularly high bonuses in. For example, longswords tend to have their highest bonus in the slashing style.

The higher the attack bonus of the desired attack style, the higher the chance the player will hit (Red hitsplat.png) during combat.

Defence bonuses

Defence bonuses are compared against the relevant attack bonuses of an enemy to determine the likelihood of being hit by an enemy and vice versa, a monsters likelihood of hitting a player.

In general, melee armour has good stab/slash/crush/ranged defensive bonuses but poor magic bonuses, magic armour has good stab/slash/crush/magic defensive bonuses but poor ranged bonuses, and ranged armour tends to have good magic/ranged defence bonuses but poor stab/slash/crush bonuses.

It is possible for an item to have negative bonuses, such as a rune platebody, providing negative bonuses towards magic defence.

The higher the defensive bonus, the higher the chance the opponent will hit a zero (Blue hitsplat.png) during combat. Within this, a player's defence level also plays a role within the chance of an opponent hitting. However, a player's magic level plays a role in magic defence where 70% of the player's magic level and 30% of their defence level is their defence against magical attacks.

NPC's defence roll works the same way as players with an exception. NPC magic defence roll is calculated with it's magic level and magic defence bonus. NPC's defence level doesn't matter against players magic.[1]

Other bonuses

  • Melee strength: The strength bonus, coupled with a player's strength level is used to determine the player's maximum melee damage.
  • Ranged strength: The 'strength' bonus of ammo.
  • Magic damage: This increases the damage dealt of a spell.
  • Prayer: The prayer bonus lowers the drain rate of prayers. The drain rate of a prayer is the amount of time a prayer takes to drain 1 prayer point. A prayer bonus of +15 will make all prayers last 50% longer. Comparatively a bonus of +30 will double the length any prayer can be used.

Target-specific

  • Undead: A player's accuracy and damage increases against undead monsters with the use of the salve amulet. There are different versions of the salve amulet:
  • Slayer: A player's accuracy and damage increases against monsters that the player has currently been assigned with during Slayer by 15%. This can only be done with the use of the black mask or the slayer helmet. The ordinary versions will only provide bonuses towards melee, and will require imbuing via the Nightmare Zone before they will provide accuracy and damage bonuses to all combat styles.

OSRS Special Attack Tier List (reupload - full)

The Best Magic Weapons &#; Staves in Old School RuneScape (Ranked)

Magical ability in OSRS is pretty important. And you’ll unlock a variety of combat and utility skills as you level up your magic.

Teleports, turning items into coins, powerful surge strikes, and even the ability to freeze your opponents can all be unlocked by training the Magic skill.

So what should a skilled mage use as their weapon of choice?

In OSRS there are a ton of options from staves to wands, some of which are so powerful that only the most skilled mages will be able to wield them!

But if you’re looking for ideas for your mage build, here’s all the best OSRS magic weapons to check out.

Ahrim’s Staff

Ahrim’s Staff with Ahrims Robes OSRS

Our first staff on this list is a barrows item, the Ahrim’s Staff.

Requiring a minimum level of 70 magic and attack to wield, this staff has a magic attack and defence bonus of +15, with a +5% magic strength bonus.

Not too shabby.

If you use this staff with a full set of Ahrim’s, you’ll unlock the set effect.

That allows you to have a chance of lowering your opponent’s strength level with each successful hit.

If you further pair this with an Amulet of the Damned, you’ll be able to auto-cast Ancient magic, and have a 25% chance to deal 30% more damage!

Where to Get: This is obtainable from the Barrows minigame as a rare drop.

9. Staff of the Dead

Staff of the Dead render from OSRS

Staff of the Dead is a dual purpose weapon that can also work as a decent melee weapon, with stats similar to a Dragon Longsword &#; making it unique among other magic weapons!

Just note that it requires 75 magic and attack to wield.

But the staff has a +17 magic attack and defence bonus, with a very powerful +15% magic strength bonus too.

When using a combat-based spell, there’s a % chance that you’ll use absolutely no runes!

This is a very useful staff for PvP and PvM, for sure.

On top of all the above benefits, the staff offers a special attack that halves all incoming melee damage for 60 seconds. But it has to remain equipped to obtain the benefits.

Where to Get: This is a rare drop from K’ril in the God War Dungeon at a rate of 1/

8. Dawnbringer

Dawnbringer OSRS Equipped Preview

The Dawnbringer staff is actually the second most powerful in the game.

And the reason it’s so far down on this ranking is because it can only be used in one place:

Phase 1 Verzik in the Theatre of Blood.

But it has a very powerful +25 magic attack bonus, with a special attack that hits Verzik for 75 – damage per hit!

This consumes 35% of the special bar, and as a result, must be passed around to your teammates to deal enough damage to takedown her shields.

Where to Get: Obtainable in the Theatre of Blood temporarily. It cannot be removed from the raid.

7. Master Wand

Master Wand OSRS Closeup Render

At last, our first wand on this list.

The Master Wand has a magic attack and defence of +20, and requires level 60 magic to wield.

It’s notable as being one of the few magic items in OSRS being able to autocast Ancient Magic. As a result, it’s always been quite a popular option among players.

Sadly, it’s locked behind the Mage Training Arena which is just boring to do.

I mean, it’s really some of the worst content to grind in OSRS. So getting this wand will take many, many hours of your time.

Where to Get: Only buyable from the Mage Training Arena with points obtained from doing activities within.

6. 3rd age Wand

Equipped 3rd age Wand OSRS Render

Being tied with the Master Wand in terms of stats, the Master Wand can auto-cast normal magic spells.

And it requires 65 magic to wield, which is 5 higher than the Master Wand.

What makes this item special is that it’s a 3rd age item, which makes it very rare.

It’s so rare that it costs around m while the Master Wand only costs around m. Yeah.

People with this wand generally have it to show off, as opposed to really using it in battle.

Where to Get: Obtainable from elite and master clue caskets.

5. Trident of the Swamp

Trident of the Swamp OSRS Render

Trident of the Swamp is probably the most used staff in OSRS.

It’s fairly expensive to use, but less so than a Sanguinesti Staff – and it still packs a punch!

To wield this trident, you’ll need at least a level 75 magic.

It has a +25 magic attack bonus and +15 magic defence. With no bonuses, the max hit of this staff at level 99 magic is And that can be pushed to 38 with max magic bonuses equipped.

Unlike other staves on this list, the Trident of the Swamp has a built-in spell. And the staff itself must be charged.

So there’s actually no need to carry runes with you.

The staff can also only be used in PvM, as it’s currently banned in PvP.

And finally, this incredible staff has a 25% chance to envenom an enemy. This increase to a % chance with a serpentine helmet on.

Where to Get: You’ll need to attach a Magic Fang from Zulrah, onto a Trident of the Seas.

4. Toxic Staff of the Dead

Toxic Staff of the Dead Equipped in OSRS

Now this is an upgraded Staff of the Dead, which has a magic fang attached to it.

You’ll need a minimum of 75 attack and Magic to use it, though.

The staff has identical stats to a Staff of the Dead, with the added benefit of having a 25% chance to envenom an enemy.

And just like before, this increase to a % chance with a serpentine helmet on.

As a result, this staff is commonly used in high-risk PvP situations, because it outputs quite a high amount of damage. Especially with surge spells.

You’ll also need to charge the staff with Zulrah scales too, and it’ll cost around m to fully charge.

Where to Get: You’ll need to attach a Magic Fang from Zulrah, onto a Staff of the Dead.

3. Harmonized Nightmare Staff

Harmonized Nightmare Staff Preview from OSRS

As a seriously powerful staff, you’ll need a minimum of level 75 magic and 50 hitpoints to consider wielding this bad boy!

This is the most expensive magic weapon on this entire list at an insane cost of m.

But it’s very useful for PvP, as it’s a 4 tick weapon with no initial delay &#; making it one of the fastest weapons in OSRS.

This special attack activates when used with offensive spells from the normal spell book.

Combine the speed of this staff with a +16 magic attack and a+15% magic strength bonus, and you get a really powerful weapon. No wonder it costs so much.

And it can work in PvM too, where it’s used against bosses like Zulrah, the Nightmare, and Kraken.

Where to Get: You’ll need to have a Nightmare Staff and combine it with the very expensive Harmonized Orb.

2. Sanguinesti Staff

Sanguinesti Staff OSRS Render Preview

I mentioned this one earlier, and it’s definitely a well-known choice for magic weaponry.

The Sanguinesti Staff comes with a magic attack bonus of +25 and defence of + And it has stats comparable to a Trident of the Swamp.

What sets this staff part is its powerful passive effect.

The Sang has a 1/6 chance of successful hits on your opponent actually healing you of roughly half the amount of damage you just dealt.

And the staff has a built-in spell you can carry with it.

But it must be charged with blood runes, making it very expensive to get and to maintain.

A fully-charged staff requires 20k blood runes, which costs around m This makes every spell cost around k!

As a result of this high expense, the Sanguinesti Staff is mainly used by the very rich, or for extremely niche activities such as raids.

And if you’re looking to buy one, start saving. This staff typically sells for the very expensive rate of 70m!

Where to Get: Obtainable as a rare drop from the Theatre of Blood.

1. Kodai Wand

Kodai Wand render in OSRS

Our number one spot goes to the all-powerful Kodai Wand.

The Kodai certainly feels like the best magic weapon in OSRS, with a magic attack bonus of +28, defence of +20, and a magic strength bonus of +15%.

Just note that it requires 75 magic to wield, so it’ll take some time before you can carry this one around.

But it can auto cast both ancient and normal spell books!

As if this weapon couldn’t get any better, the wand provides you with an unlimited supply of water runes. This makes ice spells very easy to cast, as well as saving you an inventory spot.

It’s also quite expensive at a cost of 86m. But if you can foot the bill (or get it another way) then it’s probably worth the effort.

Where to Get: You’ll need to get a Kodai Insignia from the Chambers of Xerics, which is a mega-rare drop. Once obtained, you’ll need to combine that with a Master Wand.
