Daily Devotional | The Power of Prayer

From the Editor

Jamie Janosz sitting at a computerWhen you think about Moses do you picture a helpless baby floating down the river in a basket? Or maybe you think of an older, respected man of God, descending from a mountain to deliver the Ten Commandments?

There is a great deal more to learn about this epic biblical character. Join Today in the Word author Brad Baurain as we follow the life of Moses during his time in the luxurious grandeur of the Egyptian palace and through the parched and barren desert, leading God’s people towards the Promised Land.

This month it is our prayer that you will:

  • Understand who Moses was and his important place in biblical history
  • Recognize the godly qualities displayed in the life of Moses
  • Learn what it means to follow God with faith, prayer, and obedience

As always, thank you for studying God’s Word with us!

Bible Browser

Dark Mode

Version 2.4 introduces a new feature: dark mode. Setting dark mode changes the colour scheme, so the background colour is dark – nearly black – and the text is pale. This setting is useful for using the oremus Bible Browser in a dark setting, for example at a nighttime service in a church or elsewhere.

Encrypted/https version of the oremus Bible Browser

From version 2.2.10 (March 2019) the oremus Bible Browser is now available at https://bible.oremus.org as well as at http://bible.oremus.org. This means that all data is transferred between your browser and the oBB server fully encrypted. Third parties are unable to see the content of the data being transferred. All users are encouraged to switch to using the secure version.

The oremus Bible Browser is, and always has been, offered free of any charge. An API for the oremus Bible Browser

A frequently-asked question is whether it is possible to interface to the oBB. The answer is that it is, but that the interface has not been publicly documented. That has now been put right, and the web interface is described here.

Kress Biblical Resources' Road Maps for the Non-Pauline Epistles and Revelation

We are blessed to present to you content from our newest partner—Kress Biblical Resources. They have provided us with their published work, Road Maps for the Non-Pauline Epistles and Revelation, to offer on our website. Kress Biblical Resources describes this resource "as an initial roadmap for other adventurers to explore the infinitely beautiful terrain of this portion of God's Word."

Within this resource, you will find detailed study resources specific to each book, which are divided into three parts. The first part includes a summary statement and a brief outline of the book. The second part, entitled "Introductory Matters," examines the book's author, aim, and audience. The third part provides a comprehensive exegetical outline that walks you through each verse of each chapter. This resource will quickly become an invaluable part of your study time in these books.

Before you start studying with the Kress Road Maps, we recommend reading the preface to learn more about the heart behind these wonderful resources. If you would like to purchase a physical copy of these road maps, you can find them on the Kress website.

What is Bible.org?

Bible.org is an evangelical, “nondenominational Bible based site that exists to freely share the good news from God to the entire world so you can KNOW the Truth about life and eternity. This Truth comes from Knowing GOD and having a relationship with Jesus Christ” (from Bible.org, accessed 10/23/19). The doctrinal statement of Bible.org is thoroughly biblical and evangelical.

The Bible.org site is designed to help a person study the Bible. Someone who wants to study a particular verse can type the reference into the search bar, and the results will yield articles written about the verse or topics related to issues addressed in the verse. Some of the articles are written by the Bible.org staff, and others are by well-known evangelical authors. Many translations of the Bible are available and searchable at Bible.org, as well.

Perhaps the greatest asset on the Bible.org website is the New English Translationor NET Bible, which was produced by Bible.org and available for free at NETBible.org. The website describes NETBible.org as “the best Bible study tool on the web.” The NET is an internet-based Bible translation that has over 58,000 translation notes and comments by a team of evangelical scholars to help the reader understand the meaning of the text. Although the NET Bible with notes is available in book form, the organization focuses on the internet version as the most efficient way to make the Bible readily accessible to anyone in the world.

The ministries of Bible.org and GotQuestions.org are complementary, with some overlap. Bible.org focuses on making Bible study tools available to anyone who wants to access them, whereas Got Questions Ministries focuses on answering theological and Bible-based questions. Both ministries use the internet to promote the Word of God and constantly publish new content with the intent that many who use our sites will read and respond to the gospel presentation.
