28 Incredible Modern Mansions That We’d Love to Call Home

Uluwatu House by SAOTA

When it comes to home design, the mansion is the epitome of luxury. We all dream of someday living in a luxurious mansion, but let’s face it, for most of us that’s all it is, a dream. But that shouldn’t stop us from still looking at what we would like to see in one of those dream homes.

The modern mansion is a little bit different from the lavish Colonial and Victorian counterparts that used to be passed down from generation to generation. The layout is different, with more open spaces, large windows, and a variety of bespoke materials used throughout the home, such as marble, metals, and special woods.

Cleaner, more angular lines are the norm in the 21st century. Also, the outdoor space is lusher and it’s an important part of the overall design concept. Recently the newbuilds have been leaning more towards materials that are more sustainable and better for the environment.

We compiled a list of 28 amazing modern mansions from throughout the world, to show you the difference in design and style. They all have one thing in common: they’re all well designed and truly amazing. We’re sure any of us would dream to call these places ‘home’.

One of the most expensive homes in the US, this lavish mega mansion from Bel Air was initially listed for sale at a mind boggling price tag of $250 million. Maybe the 38,000 square feet of sheer opulence or the James Bond-themed theater justifies the price? Or could it be the 12 bedrooms and 21 bathrooms? What about the 85-foot infinity pool with breathtaking views over Los Angels?

Mansions are the pinnacle of luxury when it comes to home design (let’s be honest, how many people in the world live in an actual castle). Modern mansions though look very different from their French and Colonial style counterparts. They have many more angles and unusual forms. a lot of glass goes into them as well as marble, concrete, and metal. They are truly special.

Modern design implies practicality and modern mansions follow the principle to an extent. Sometimes unusual shapes and design concepts take over and that’s when these homes become truly impressive. But be advised they are, most of the time, priced ridiculously high. So let’s see these outstanding finds below.

Amazing Modern Mansions Around the World

301 N Carolwood Drive, Los Angeles, CA

150 million house 900x554 22 Outstanding Modern Mansions for Luxury Living

Modern mansions are among the most expensive properties in the world. They don’t just have impressive square footage but also all the amenities of a hotel, casino, and the best modern house you can think of. For instance, this luxurious mansion that comes with a whopping $150 million price tag has 20 full baths, spa heaven, theater complex, wine room, and a 5,300-square-foot (492 sq. m.) master suite with a private heated patio.

Mummy Mountain – Paradise Valley, AZ

22 Outstanding Modern Mansions for Luxury Living

This house design project looks like a total architectural extravaganza, but as far as modern mansion architecture goes, it might just bring something fresh to the industry.

The project is proposed for a lot in Arizona by Nick Tsontakis and was supposed to be built in 2015. The 16,370 square feet (1,520 sq m) property promised 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms as well as a swimming pool in a shape of a marquise diamond.

The focus is on the roof, though. Echoing superhero costume design, it seems, the roof makes all the difference in the world for this modern mansion.

Bridge house in Malibu

Bridge house in Malibu

Called the Bridge House this concrete and glass home was built in 2010. The project of a studio Sorensen Architects this 7, 000-square-foot (650 sq. m.) Malibu dwelling comes at a price of $6.35 million.

Its exterior is far from what we’re used to calling ‘luxurious’. The rough concrete blocks with glass and rusty metal inclusions aren’t the most common materials for modern mansions, but it works really well with its location environment and makes it stand out among others.

Contemporary “Mega House” In Europe

Contemporary Mega Mansion In Europe

Mega mansions are still usually built in a more impressive French style, but this mansion in Ukraine comes in a dark-colored glass blocky modern shape. Designed by Yakusha Design the 21,000-square-foot (1950 sq m) building comes with a two-storey living room, four two-level children’s bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool with a slide and a spacious green courtyard.

The interiors are furnished with luxurious materials and furnishings that create different atmosphere in each room.

House E16 in South Africa

E16 house project

House E16 by Wessels Joyce Associates is located in South Africa and has a typical modern look. There are different levels clad in mostly glass that create an irregular shape and adapt to an uneven terrain of the site.

Raised swimming pool comes in an interesting shape with a fitting deck and built in lights. Deck is wrapping around the modern structure to allow for plenty of outdoor lounge space.

Glass Modern Mansion, Alta Ski Area

Modern glassy mansion

This glass modern mansion in Utah we found featured on Curbed seems like a relatively modest modern home. At a price of ‘just’ $5,8 million there has to be more to it than an impressive exterior, right?

Lying between two ski areas in Utah’s Cottonwood Canyon the modern chalet features 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms and (predictably) 3 fireplaces. If that’s not enough for you, there is also a breakfast bar, a manager’s apartment, a hot tub, and a garage.

The Farm at McCauley Butte

Modern Montana mansion

If you’re into country style a modern mansion can accommodate your taste as well. This unique $6,5 million impressive dwelling in Montana is built with wood and glass.

Sitting on no less impressive 71-acre lot the house is relatively new. It was built in 2011 and features a tapered roof and a nearby pond.

Modern Mansion In Johannesburg, South Africa

Harrow mansion

Harrow mansion is a 19,500-square-foot (1,811 sq. m.) home located in Johannesburg. A 5-bedroom mansion boasts formal living and dining rooms, home office, and gourmet kitchen – every attribute of a luxury dwelling.

Tipping at $5.5 million the property has an interesting eclectic design that looks different from the typical modern architecture, which helps it stand out.

La Perla Del Mediterráneo by Carlos Gilardi

La Perla Del Mediterráneo by Carlos Gilardi

Carlos Gilardi‘s La Perla del Mediterráneo (Mediterranean Pearl) is a gorgeous stately building perched on a cliff overlooking the sea near Alicante, Spain.

The white stone so often used in architecture in that part of the world makes for a stark contrast with its sandy rock environment and deep blue horizon.

Maciej Grelewicz modern mansion

Maciej Grelewicz modern mansion

Even though this is just a realistic-looking concept created by architect Maciej Grelewicz for a competition in collaboration with Anna Orłowska, it makes for an amazing modern mansion design. Clean lines, classy marble stone, and a very modern form make it a stunning addition to a green landscape.

It’s no wonder it won the 1st prize. Looking completely different from what we can usually see in modern mansion architecture the house simply has to be built.

15210 Antelo Pl, Los Angeles

Modern futuristic mansion at 15210 Antelo Pl, Los Angeles

Looking for a mansion with a history? This ultra modern estate with a hint of futurism was built back in 1986 and completely renovated in 2008. Work of an architect Ted Tanaka the house sits on 3.2 acres and thanks to its stilts overlooks the city of Los Angeles and the ocean.

The $16,5 million property was planned with a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a glass-encased elevator.

6th 1448 Houghton, Johannesburg, South Africa

Modern Mansion by SAOTA

SAOTA has built so many modern homes that are too luxurious, it hurts. Located in South Africa, this house has it all from an ultra modern facade to a swimming pool.

Its exterior definitely makes it stand out among the rest of designs. As opposed to endless glass the U-shaped facade features decorative small windows and a complex layered design.

9945 Beverly Grove Drive | Beverly Hills

Modern home design in Beverly Hills

According to The Agency this luxurious Beverly Hills mansion is a ‘museum-quality’ home with 15,500 square feet (1,439 sq. m.) of space, 100’ infinity-edge pool, and automated glass walls.

It’s true that many modern mansions have that museum quality about them. You can see that as a good thing or a bad thing, but with square footage of an average mansion (regardless of its style) it’s hard to escape it.

1201 Laurel Way, Beverly Hills

Modern Mansion in Beverly Hills

Another Beverly Hills property is a $36 million mansion located at 1201 Laurel Way. It might look just like “any” other modern house at first glance, but it’s far from it. The complex structure features a wrap around water feature and an infinity pool.

A three-level cascading garden, multiple outdoor lounge areas, and truly luxe-style inteirors make it worth every penny.

Mar de Luz Modern Mansion in Peru

Modern Mansion in Peru

Mar de Luz modern mansion in Peru is Oscar Gonzalez Moix‘s project. The 8,374-square-foot (778 sq m) home has a rectangular shape so common for modern houses. Resting on two parallel walls it seems to be balancing on one leg thanks to numerous glass inclusions equipped with wooden shutters.

Sitting waterfront the two-storey abode boasts a swimming pool and an inner courtyard with a lawn separating the property from water.

5685 Anchorage Terrace in Sanctuary Cove, Queensland, Australia

Modern Mansion In Queensland, Australia

This modern mansion in Queensland, Australia is 24,000 square feet (2,229 sq. m.) in size and has 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a home theater, and a 12-car subterranean garage.

Priced at $17,5 million the house is built in a curvilinear shape, which is refreshing to see in modern architecture. These curvy lines create two balconies with outdoor lounge spaces and in the middle there is a huge window to enjoy the water views from the inside.

2966 Sunridge Court, Westwood Plateau, Coquitlam

Modern mansion

Another mega mansion listed by realtor Josh Soprovich is surprisingly ‘cheap’ compared to others on the list. But from the looks of it, it’s no less impressive.

House boasts 8,050 square feet (747 sq. m.) of space, 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and a 4-car garage. Inside there is a single grand staircase, traditional luxury decor, and an indoor/outdoor area.

Modern Satsang mansion in Yorba Linda, California

Modern Satsang mansion in Yorba Linda, California

Another great example of expensive modern mansions is Satsand, a $20.7 million palace sitting on 1.14 acres of land (which is actually a hill). Built in 2001 it has over 80 solar panels, a fitness center, and its own ballroom. Not bad at all, huh?

Its rounded aqua glass windows look stately and their great numbers instantly draw attention.

The Quedjinup project

The Quedjinup project

Jodie Cooper Design studio’s The Quedjinup project is a modern mansion that masterfully combines the old with the new. Heavily influenced by the traditional style of a perfect suburban house it includes golden glass and loft spaces along with many other modern elements.

The back of the house is even bigger on glass walls and windows. There is a waterless landscape and an old ranch-style fence that surrounds the property land. A perfect mix of modernism and tradition lends this house both luxury and cosiness.

4 Buccaneer Way, Coronado, CA

Waterfront mansion at 4 Buccaneer Way, Coronado, CA

What can be more impressive than a waterfront mansion? A waterfront palace maybe? Well, this is no palace, but at $12,8 million and 8,200 square feet (761 sq. m.) it might as well be.

Located in Coronado, CA just 160 feet away from water the house was built in 1988, according to Homes Of The Rich. It has a rooftop deck, a swimming pool with a spa, and even its own dock.

1800s Chicago Dairy Barn Transformation

1800s Chicago Dairy Barn Modern Conversion

Modern mansions can be too expensive to build, but when it comes to big building conversions you might just be in luck. This used to be a dairy barn, according to Curbed. Now it’s a contemporary mansion with a price tag of $8.5 million.

The old building was outfitted with huge glass inclusions popular in modern houses. A 10,000-square-foot (929 sq. m.) property located in Chicago also boasts a courtyard, heated terrazzo floors, and mahogany windows.

Water cleaning station conversion in Villefranche sur Mer

Waterhouse conversion, French Riviera

This one may look like a more traditional mansion because it is an old water cleaning station abandoned in the 70’s. Today, though, it is a modern mansion that was transformed by an interior designer Bernadette Jacques.

The modern trend of converting old buildings into modern homes didn’t make a huge impact on the exterior, though. It’s very true to its traditional style. The designer even preserved some parts of the station equipment inside, but in all other senses it is a very modern home.

Modern mansions may not look much different from regular modern style homes externally, but once you step inside you can definitely feel the difference.

A complex of cuboid volumes land around an impressive terrace for entertaining. A covered outdoor lounge is attached to the main mass, whilst an exposed fire pit nestles into a niche created by two volumes and an outdoor bar hooks up to the pool house. Green roofs on the outermost volumes integrate the build into the gardens green borders.

Speaking of green borders, this ribbed sandstone house design includes a lengthy planter fused along the whole length of its upper floor.

Cantilevered from the cliff, raised on stilts from the rockface, great linear slabs push out into the blue. Exterior lights beam to highlight the split between floors and canopies.

Villa Amanzi looks out over a cliff in exclusive Cape Sol in Thailand. Its swimming pool probes forth on the landscape, seeking to join the sea. See more pictures here.

This chic modern house exterior uses glass to reveal the heart of the home, and to open the upper floor up to the stars. Privacy walls cover the glazed lower wings of the house, whilst wood clad interior walls hide away private quarters on the second story.

Swirling, curling lines draw a welcoming driveway, a rounded reflection pool and a curvaceous abode that embraces itself and its stunning setting.

Like a souped up lifeguard lookout station, this luxury beach home surveys the sea and coastline through four sides of glass. The rooftop pool deck is more reminiscent of a luxury yacht, complete with ‘control room’.

From yacht to Starship Enterprise, this sweeping futuristic concept includes a horseshoe pool and living area, and a rooftop driveway.

As though one massive garden room, every wall of this L-shaped living space retracts to adjoin with its green outdoor space or breathtaking view over the front terrace.

The Orum House stands on a 1.6 acre lot. An impressive swimming pool and 6000 square feet of covered terraces & outdoor decks increase the indoor living space of a central Y-shaped mass. More images here.

An exterior staircase is suspended on string-like balustrades into a verandah living room with an acrylic sided swimming pool. Open sided outdoor rooms were designed to encourage interaction between family members and to embrace the tropical climate of Singapore. A rooftop garden crowns the lush urban oasis. Slick linear architectural form echoes the pristine coastline. Bedroom suites line up to enjoy the viewpoint from second story glass cubes.

An enormous V frame holds up the open top story of this spectacular abode, which melds into a shuttered volume of bedrooms. Sharp overhanging eaves shelter the living areas from direct sunlight.

A massive pool floods around the perimeter of this tropical home design, making outdoor living areas into peaceful rafts.

Concrete steps cascade to a glowy crossing of stepping stones. Theatrical, magical, and monumental.

Wooden planes cut through white structure, and hang a warm backdrop for an elongated sun terrace.

Pretty boxes on the hillside, stacked, tacked and tucked back from a second family living space built by the pool.

The 1200 square metre South Lake House renovation project in Brazil preserves the original triangular form of the uppermost floor, held in structural independence from the rest of the house. See more of this impressive mass renovation project here.

Man-made in nature, Casa Entreparotas was built on a site with existing plantlife and a babbling stream in México. The jungle atmosphere inspired a palette of stony colors for the home exterior, like a lost ruin. A series of routes were incorporated to circulate the vast house and wild borders. Explore more of this home here.

However, if you really want to blend with the natural habitat, you can’t go much further than rooting a huge tree right on your roof.

Like a modern play on a colonial home, this home exterior is imposing and dignified. Its elevated position puts it up on a pedestal, right where it belongs.

Architects had complete freedom to design this unique house as if it were their own. External walls and ceilings were converged into oblique angles, so that rainwater pours toward the centre of the roofs before rushing down into the courtyard like a waterfall. Read more about this special design here.

Long lines look sublime, especially when accentuated with a straight and stretched outdoor pool.

The layout of this 4000 square foot family retreat in Hampton Bays incorporates the latest strategies in sustainable design. The existing tree arrangement and natural fauna of the site was protected, and a green roof helps pay back a chunk of what was removed. More images here.

A terrific take on a treehouse, this geometric marvel skims the top of tropical palm trees.

Differences in heights, scales and views allows residents of this stunning modern house to revel in the sun and sea breeze, and views of the ocean and forest.

This amazing concept pulls the entire house into a dramatic lean over its own pool area.

Ebony black and dark walnut volumes wedge against a rugged rock face. A man-made waterfall sets the soundtrack.

Peekaboo. Wooden shutters can either open up this house, or put on its armour.

Pushing the envelope, this outstretched living space teeters on a wedge.

Colossal and concealing a courtyard, fully touring this home could take quite a while.

Neat as a pin, white, wood and greenery slice around each other to form multi level decks and living spaces.

Vines reclaim the forest atop a structure of stone columns, wooden decks and glowing light.

Named Britain’s House of the Year by the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Flint House adapts to its landscape with an extraordinary stepped profile and a rugged material composition. More images here.

This brutalist house exterior is elevated on a remarkable concertina base. Warm wood panelling peeks out of the concrete diamonds.

Not all modern exteriors have to be concrete/white/stone. Traditional red brick is still in business.

A sculptural house exterior of morphed steel maintains a sense of open simplicity. More of this here.

The pool beats a blue carpet to the front of this house, where we glimpse a tree growing through the living room ceiling.

Like sails on a boat, crisp white volumes appear to turn in the open breeze.

Glass balustrades disappear so that two layers of vast terraces can drink in the setting. More images here.

There is silence all around. Candles are burning and the scent of roses fills the room. Then you turn your face to me and our lips merge in a kiss.

The conversation revolved around the RSP, Igor was damn ironic and made me laugh until I fell. Sasha, the correct scarlet provides not only the RSP itself, but also all her lovers, as well as all the lovers' wives. So the correct scarlet is not allowed for me, I have no lovers at all. Shit question, start with a simple allen and gradually overgrow with all the attributes of a real RSP.
